A Cat Blogging Community

Have you ever wanted that special location where you could meet up with cat bloggers to share stories and stay updated with what is happening in the cat blogging community? We're here to tell you there is that special place at The Cat Blogosphere.

Truffle and Brulee take over as managing editors for The Cat Blogosphere

When Mom Paula began blogging 10 years ago, she was introduced to the cat blogging community of The Cat Blogosphere

The Cat Blogosphere was the amazing idea of Robyn Harton from House of the (Mostly) Black Cats and the first post was on April 7, 2006. When Mom Paula began blogging, ML, from the Sherwood Kitties was managing the Cat Blogosphere (CB). Each day, news from around the cat blogging world was shared with the world. We shared laughter with celebrations and tears for our furry friends who left for the Rainbow Bridge. Mom Paula began blogging with Sweet Praline on June 5, 2008. She was introduced to the CB through Dean McCaughan from Jasper McKitten-Cat. She met so many wonderful people and cats through the CB and was lucky to meet some of them in person through her travels at her job. The CB held auctions for cats (and some humans) in need, hosted parties, sponsored special days where all of the cat blogs would post around a theme and provide their links on the CB that day. The CB put together wall calendars with a collage of cats from around the world. The CB was a community of people who cared about each other. ML retired from doing the CB several years ago and Morgen who ran the Purrchance 2 Dream blog. Morgen was assisted by Eyad (IT support) and Minion (formerly Isis). We want to give a special thanks to them because the CB probably wouldn't have survived if he hadn't stepped in.

Morgen, Eyad, and Minion ran the CB the last several years

The cat blogging community has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 10 years. Mom Paula remembers when she could visit all the cat bloggers within an hour and was able to stay on top of news and events. The CB is the one location she can visit and click on the links to the participating blogs to keep up with people. When Morgen asked her a little over a year ago if she'd be willing to take over the CB, she responded that she was interested, but needed to get through her retirement and go through three eye surgeries before she could consider it. She also needed someone to assist with technology support since the CB is on WordPress and is self-hosted. She knew a few of the cat bloggers who were very familiar with self hosting and WordPress and had been members of the Cat Blogosphere for a long time. Last year, Mom Paula spoke with Terry Frum from Brian's Home about working with her. After several discussions, a partnership was formed and plans to transfer the CB from Morgen to Mom Paula began.

The next step was deciding on a new theme and design for The Cat Blogosphere. Terry began researching themes to meet the needs of the "new" CB. We reached out to Ann from Zoolatry for our designs for the rebranding of the CB. Ann has designed graphics for the CB since before Mom Paula began blogging. Ann has graciously designed Memory graphics and Special Purrs graphics for cats in the cat blogging community. She provides special graphics for holidays, birthdays, blogging celebrations, and announcements. Ann also designs a lot of the headers and designs for members of the cat blogging community. We wanted to keep Ann involved in the CB because of her treasured history with and knowledge of the community. We went through several designs with Ann and settled on the wonderful blue/gray designs you will see today.

As we move forward with changes with The Cat Blogosphere, we want to honor the history and traditions of the CB as we embrace the future possibilities of the cat blogging community. We have special plans in store and we hope we can increase the engagement of our community through several activities and opportunities. Some of our long term goals are:

  • CB Link Directory page. This would be a permanent page and an ongoing hop where everyone's blog name and a link so people can see the members of the CB. This would be the general link to your page.
  • CB Shops page. We'd like to continue the CB Shops page. It needs to be updated with current names, links, and information. We know many of our members have shops and we'd like for the community to be aware of them.
  • Giveaways. We'd like to add a link on the daily blog links for those in the community who are hosting a giveaway. We would need a graphic, a link to your post, and other pertinent information (deadline, product information, etc.)
  • Activities and Celebrations. We want to include special activities and celebrations that are occuring in our community. We would need a graphic, a link, and a description of the event. This includes birthdays, Gotcha Days, Blogoversaries, blog hops, etc. We want to include as much as possible, but we can't do it without your help.
  • CB Repurrters. We want to bring back the CB Repurrters. There are so many more cat bloggers now than a few years ago and there is no way we can keep up with everyone. If you are interested in participating as a CB Repurrter, please email us as catblogosphere@sc.rr.com and provide your name, blog, and description of your area of interest. The CB Repurrters can let us know when something is happening (happy or sad) and provide a new blogger alert. It's important that the CB Repurrters are people who visit around the Cat Blogosphere on a regular basis.
  • Memory and Illness Graphics. Ann has graciously agreed to continue to design and provide graphics for our fur children who are ill or who've left us for the Rainbow Bridge . We try to keep up through social media, but need notifications from our membership. You should email Ann directly at zoolatry@gmail.com if the cat has a blog and she will design the graphic to post on the CB and will also send these graphics to Cecilia (The Power of the Paw) and to Linda (Our Rainbow Friends) so they can post, and/or follow up as need be.  If the cat is a non-blogger, but is active on social media, please email Mom Paula at catblogosphere@sc.rr.com. Please include the human's name, email address (if you are sending for someone else), cat's name, and blog (or Facebook page) address so we can forward the graphic to her (him).
  • CB Calendar page. We need to update the calendar. It's being moved to a new platform. Please double check the calendar and inform us of any deletions, additions, changes, etc. If the calendar isn't available as we are updating the theme, please drop us a note through email.
  • Guest Posts. We hope to provide the opportunity for our members to provide a guest post on the CB, especially on national and international days that recognize cats. These would be short posts, but we would like back to your blog. Stay tuned...
  • Social Media. We have a CB account on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We are hoping to have some editors from the cat blogging community who will volunteer to manage these accounts. We'll provide more information on these groups at a future date.

You can read more about the history of the CB on the webpage.

We're exciting about this opportunity to work within the cat blogging community. If anyone needs to contact us about possible blog posts, announcements, blog hops, etc., you can email us at catblogosphere@sc.rr.com. If you've never visited the Cat Blogosphere, we encourage you to join us each day to read about what is happening in the CB community and to share your blog links.

June holidays and celebrations for cats

Now to move forward with our blog redesign and rebranding.

  4. Wow it sounds like an incredible community. I'm always amazed by the support and friendship a community can offer. Not exactly the same but I see that with my FB group for senior dog parents. The genuine concern for each other, the willingness to help, share information and offer support to what are essentially complete strangers is a beautiful thing to witness. You're lucky to be part of such a wonderful community of cat bloggers.
