Shedding Season Again!

It's that time of the year that cats tend to shed their coats before the full Winter coat comes in. At least we do! We know all cats shed, but can you imagine a house with two Persian Cats will full coats who shed all the time?!? Cats also like to groom themselves and one of the dreaded side effects can be a hairball! There are some things you can do to help prevent and decrease the occurrence of hairballs.

Sunday Selfie

Good morning everyone! It's Easy Like Sunday day for us and time to pose for a Sunday Selfie.

This is basically the same photo we "artified" yesterday for the Caturday Art post, but Mom Paula loves that she caught both of us looking at her and the photo was almost in focus (MOL!).

Caturday Art

We can't believe Mom Paula has let almost a week go by without helping us post on the blog! We reminded her it was time to be a little creative and let our adoring fans see us again.

Scratching and Hiding in Style - Catit®

There are so many scratchers, climbers, and beds available for cats now. The challenge is finding something that the cats will use and that the humans feel comfortable placing in major parts of the home. We tend to like items that are a little more modern and unique and we've found something we think you'll love!

We've reviewed several products from Catit® in the past and we've always loved the style, comfort, and functionality of the furniture. The Vesper™ Design line is one of our favorites and the new Vesper Minou is sure to please the cats in your life.

Sunday Selfie

Hello good friends! We hope everyone is having a great weekend! We thought we'd pause a few moments from our busy schedule of taking care of Mom Paula to pose for a selfie.

It's that time of the year when we are shedding like crazy and keeping Mom Paula on her toes to try and keep us groomed and the cotton-ball field in the hallways to a minimum.

Fun and Functional Eating - Totally Catty and Totally Pooched

Most of our readers know that Truffle is on a prescription diet because of her bladder stones this year. There is really only one flavor/texture/brand she will readily eat (and she wasn't our finicky eater!), so keeping the meals interesting is a challenge. Mom Paula will mix in a little of Brulee's food in with Truffle's to keep Truffle from pushing Brulee aside. She'll also add some crumbs from our freeze-dried chicken to make it more enticing. Mom Paula likes the esthetic part of eating out of unique dishes and she found some fun dishes, that are also functional, to share with you today.

Preparing for a Disaster with Pets

As I'm sitting here writing this post, the entire coast of South Carolina is under a mandatory evacuation because of the approaching Hurricane Florence. Usually we're safe from hurricanes, but this particular storm has the potential to impact us in the middle of the state.

We believe many of you are prepared for your human family in case of emergencies and natural disasters, but are you prepared to take care of your pets? We've seen far too many videos and photos of pets who were left behind during natural disasters, especially storms such as hurricanes. We want to make sure you are prepared to keep your pets safe and secure alongside you if you ever need to evacuate or prepare your home.

Truffle's Gotcha Day

I remember the excitement and the anxiety I felt on this day - 7 years ago. It was the day Truffle was coming to live with me and be a part of the family.

Truffle: Then and Now (2011 and 2018)

I've shared Truffle's Gotcha Day story for the past seven years and each year, that day becomes more and more special to me.

On the Go with the Sleepypod® Go Bag

We're in hurricane season in South Carolina. Luckily for us, we've never had to evacuate because we live in the middle part of the state. Last year, when Hurricane Irma came through the state, we were concerned we would need to evacuate, but luckily, it turned more westward. We had some bad wind and rain, but we were okay. Three years ago, we had a 1000-year flood and streets within 2 miles from us were covered with water. Once again, we were lucky because we are on higher ground. All of this started us thinking what we needed to do in case of an emergency, especially in preparation for the girls.

"Pet travel is on the rise thanks to pet-friendly hotels, attractions, and workspaces," say Michael Leung, Sleepypod® co-founder and lead product designer. "Since pets rely upon their owners for everything from food to protection, getting to a destination is not without challenges."

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Our good friend, Deb Barnes, began Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day in 2015 in memory of her beloved cat, Mr. Jazz. This day is set aside for everyone to remember all of those fur children who've gone before us who've touched our hearts and lives in some way.

Remembering Beignet

Today is a sad day as we remember our little mancat, Beignet, who left for the Rainbow Bridge much too early.

Taking Your Cat to the Vet

August 22 is recognized as Take Your Cat to the Vet Day. This doesn't mean that it's the only day to take your cat to the vet, but a reminder of the importance of taking your feline to the vet for wellness checks in addition to time when they are ill or injured.

The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) state that 83% of cats visit the veterinarian before their 1st birthday, but over 50% never return unless they are sick or in pain. With regular healthcare, your veterinarian can often detect conditions that may affect your cat’s long-term health.

Sunday Selfie

Mom Paula found out she has a spondylothesis in her lower back and she's trying to take it a little easier with the use of heat and cold. She begins PT this week. While resting the afternoon of the diagnosis, Truffle climbed onto the bed with Mom Paula and rested beside her with her paw on Mom Paula's arm. She stayed there a long time and it was the perfect selfie!

Finally...A Use For All That Fur - Pet Tolerance Test

Truffle and Brulee were pretty healthy cats the first four years of their life. Beginning in 2015, Brulee was rushed to both Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital and the South Carolina Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Care with respiratory issues several times and it's occurred 1-2 times a year since then. Persians tend to have respiratory issues because of their brachycephalic faces and small nostrils. Brulee and Truffle are both considered "doll-faced" Persians and not "extreme-faced" but Brulee has much smaller nostrils and a flatter face. After Brulee's respiratory issues, Truffle began having some problems with her eyes. The vets think it could be either the herpes virus or allergies. Brulee also tends to sneeze throughout the year, but she's not sick!

Mom Paula loves waking up to this view in the morning. No matter how bad she feels or what is happening, seeing Truffle and Brulee first thing always brings a smile to her face and warmth in her heart.

There's been a lot of sadness in the Cat Blogosphere this month. We've lost a lot of our feline friends to the Bridge and others are ill.

Eating with Jackson Galaxy

Everyone knows we are pampered Persian cats and have grown accustomed to being catered to. This doesn't stop when we are eating.

We've talked a lot about the challenge of feeding Truffle and Brulee because of their flatter faces. We've reviewed several bowls that successfully helped with whisker stress, especially for Brulee.

International Cat Day

Today is International Cat Day (aka World Cat Day) and is a celebration which takes place on August 8, every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.  World Cat Day is celebrated on February 17th in much of Europe and on March 1st in Russia.

Lift Away Stains #ChewyInfluencer

Have you ever wanted to tear up all of your carpet because of stains left by your fur children? Mom Paula has considered just that with us being sick so much lately. Short of ripping up the carpet, there is a solution that may work.

Truffle and Nature's Miracle® Oxy Formula

As many of you know, both Truffle and Brulee have had illnesses the last few months and both had some reactions to medications that caused them to get sick.

Truffle's Latest Vet Visit

As many of you know, Truffle has been going to the vet about every three weeks since April when she had her bladder surgery to remove bladder stones. She's had 3 urinalysis tests since her infection from the surgery and we've had difficulty getting her pH levels down with normal range and her getting her urine more dilute. She went back to the vet last week for another test.

I think the girls have been going to the vet too much lately. They are a little more hesitant to get into their carriers the last few weeks. It's time to do some things to give them more positive feelings associated with their carriers again (we'll talk about this next month for Take Your Cat to the Vet Day.

National Creme Brulee Day

Creme Brulee... Just what is this interesting sounding name? Creme Brulee is a mouth-watering creamy dessert. Creme brulee is also known as burnt cream, crema Catalana, and Trinity creme.  It is a dessert that consists of a rich custard base that is topped with a contrasting layer of hard caramel and served at room temperature. National Creme Brulee Day is observed annually on July 27th!  Our own little Crystalpurrs Creme Brulee believes this day is set aside for her.

Sunday Selfie

It's Sunday and time to take it easy. Mom Paula has a lot of work to do for the Cat Blogosphere, our blog, and a presentation for an upcoming South Carolina Gamecocks event. We think we'll just sit right in front of the computer so she'll pay attention to us.

Meow for NomNomNow

We've tried a lot of cat food during the 6 years of being adult cats with some successes and some failures. We've eaten canned food, wet food from pouches, freeze-dried food, frozen raw food, and kibble. We've never eaten freshly-made food developed by a certified veterinary nutritionist until now.

Finicky Brulee eating her Chicken Chow-Meow recipe from NomNomNow

Mom Paula remembers the type of food she feed her first cat over 40 years ago. The food came from the grocery store and was basic kibble and little research was known about appropriate nutrition for cats. The knowledge-base and research on appropriate nutrition for cats has come a long way, especially during the last decade. We're turning this post over to Mom Paula to talk about a new homemade cat food from NomNomNow.

Staying Hydrated with a Pet Fountain

July has been named Pet Hydration Month. We've share numerous photos over the years of Truffle and Brulee drinking from one of the pet fountains throughout the house. Now that Truffle had the surgery to remove bladder stones, having plenty of fresh water for her to drink is extremely important to help her avoid developing future stones.

Celebrating History; Embracing Change - 7th Blogoversary

Can you believe we've been blogging for 7 years today? It seems like yesterday when Mom Paula posted that first photo of Chloe and Zoey's kittens to announce to everyone that she would have some new kittens soon.
