12 Days of Catmas - SHERPA® Comfort Ride™ Pet Carrier

Travel as a First Class Jet Setter

It's the holiday season and we know many of our cat-owners (and other pets) travel for the holidays. We know there is a lot involved in preparing for travel with a pet in cars, so we can't imagine what is needed for airline travel. We've never traveled on an airplane, but we know we need to be prepared in case there is a need.

According to a few of our friends to do fly with their pets, it's not too difficult as long as you prepare in advance and have the appropriate carrier that is approved by the airline.

Mom Paula would never allow us to travel in cargo because of our flatter faces (potential breathing problems) and just the thought of us flying below her send shivers down her spine. If we ever had to fly, we'd travel in the cabin. The first thing one should do if flying with their pet is to obtain an airline-approved airplane pet carrier.

Truffle introduces the SHERPA® Comfort Ride™ Pet Carrier

The SHERPA® Comfort Ride™ Pet Carrier is something you may consider if traveling by plane or car. SHERPA® is known for it's Guarantee on Board® program where they've worked with major airlines that provides you with all the information you need to ensure an easy, hassle-free trip with your pet. This program outlines all the steps you need to take before traveling so you can be sure that your pet and her carrier are compliant with the airline rules and regulations. If you are denied boarding due to your carrier, Worldwise will refund the cost of your airline flight and your pet airline travel fee.

Brulee relaxes in the SHERPA® Comfort Ride™ Pet Carrier

The SHERPA Comfort Ride Pet Carrier is available in two sizes: Medium (17.75" x 11" x 10.5") or Large (20" x 13.5" x 12") and both are appropriate for extra small & toy breeds and small breeds. This carrier is approved for use on most major airlines and features a no-slip shoulder strap and carrying handle. The outer shell has chew-proof mesh windows on three sides so your pet can see around her while traveling. This carrier features a unique oval shape that gives your pet more room to stretch out and there is both a top and front entry option. The inner lining is machine-washable faux lambskin that is very soft. This liner has an innovative zipper pull and collapses for easy storage when not in use. The carrier is designed for pets to travel lying down, so some pets may not be able to stand.

We also received the SHERPA Comfort Strap™. This strap is basically a wide sling you can put over your shoulder to aid in the comfort of carrying your pet carrier. All you do is attach the sling to the D-rings on the carrier and sling it over your shoulder. There are adjustable straps to ensure a snug fit and the stretchy material conforms to your shape for added comfort. This strap is very helpful for people who may have weaker or small shoulders and allows them to more freely move around with luggage and the carrier.

Truffle checking out the SHERPA® Comfort Ride™ Pet Carrier

This carrier would be appropriate to travel in planes and cars as you take your cat with you. Be sure to add a name tag on the carrier and include important paperwork in the side pocket. When you bring home a pet carrier, we encourage you to put it out in your home with the door open so your cat can become accustomed to it. We leave our carriers out and will sometimes place a favorite toy in it to entice us to enter it. We had no problem with entering this carrier and Brulee walked right into it and settled down.

If you plan on traveling with your pet in the future, please research the requirements for the airlines before booking your flight. Find information of preparing your pet to travel, whether in a plane or car. Most of all, have fun!

You can read about all of the SHERPA products on their website. We encourage you to follow them on Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram.

  1. Traveling with my animals can be stressful. Sometimes they cry the whole ride other times they are more calm. I’d like to make sure they feel secure in the car when we are moving.

  2. Traveling tends to be difficult as my cats get very stressed. I try my best to keep them calm and relaxed but it isn't always easy to do. I think one of these would be more comfortable for traveling which in turn will make them feel more relaxed.

  3. I could always use another airline-approved carrier, since it seems like I fly somewhere every few weeks!

  4. I travel with my two cats to our holistic vet which is over 2 hours away. One meows the ENTIRE way there; the other poops himself. Never fails.

  5. My cat doesn't travel much, except for trips to the vet. This looks like it would also work for my Maltese, who goes on family vacations, to the groomer's, and the vet's.

  6. Wow, that is such a cool carrier! We don't really ever travel with Gracie, except to and from the vet. But when we do, she sings the song of her people!

  7. I've mostly traveled with my dogs, who are larger (Coonhounds), but would love to include my cats on a trip in the future. Right now I just take them to the vet as needed, and occasionally to my daughter's apartment so they can play with her cats. I'd love something like this to keep them safe!

  8. We usually stick close to home, but Knoaah LOVES car rides, especially when he is going to Grandma's house ... not so much when he has to go to the V-E-T!

  9. My cats are usually easy to travel with but they could use a more comfortable carrier.

  10. The idea of having to fly with us makes the woman slightly ill! We have wonderful car carriers though, so we'll leave this prize to others!

  11. Good luck to our traveling US friends ! Purrs

  12. My cat doesn't travel much, usually just to the vet and back but I do travel with my dog a bit.

  13. I traveled with my pet once to visit family for the holidays and the return flight was a nightmare. My pet was only allowed to travel in cargo (due to that specific country's laws). When I reached the destination and went to pick him up, he wasn't there. The airline made a mistake and didn't put him on the same flight as me - he was still at the airport at the original location. I had to wait an additional 3 hours for him to be put on the next available flight and the whole time I was so worried! In the future, I won't travel by air with my pet unless he is in the cabin with me!

  14. I love this design :) We only travel by car with our cat. The car really stresses her out though so a comfortable carrier like this could help the trip be more enjoyable for her. And safer for all of us!

  15. Looks like a great carrier! I've never flown with my dogs or cat before, but I know if I did they would HAVE to fly in the cabin with me. The cargo hold freaks me out

  16. Flying with my pets would be very stressful, as they are seniors. Because of their health and age, I'd have to keep them in the cabin with me. The Sherpa carrier would work very well for both of them.

  17. We have flown a lot with dogs and cats, mostly in cargo. Not that I love the idea but it's often the only way. There is a lot to prepare for and the key is to be organised and of course have a safe way to transport them. I love that Sherpa bag, it must be a new style. Red uses her Sherpa bag for travel in cars and in the cabin but yours is definitely fancier!!

  18. Layla has never flown and it worries me as to how she will react but she loves travelling on trains, busses etc so I am fortunate phew

  19. It's nice that they have that guarantee. Mr. N is tiny enough so that we've never been questioned at the airport. I know some people really skirt the limit though!

  20. The Sherpa pet carrier looks like a perfect way to transport your cats on a trip! We only have a dog, but I will be sharing this giveaway with my cat friends.

  21. We could definitely use one of these. Carmine and Lita aren't big fans of traveling in the car. They've never been on an airplane. I'm sure this carrier would make them more comfortable.

  22. That carrier looks like it would be purrfect for Chimera and we don't have enough carriers for everyone. If we have to evacuate Mom is thinking about making Chi share a carrier with someone. It can't be Yang because he goes wild in the car. Maybe Yin or Scylla depending on their mood.

  23. That does look cozy. I doubt it would make buckwheat quit hollering all the way to the vet and home though.

  24. I go to the stabby place. Pop man-handles me into the PTU and then they cover me with a towel like a feral so I won't sing the song of my people too loudly.

  25. We travel extensively with our dogs, and we love Sherpa products! We travel by car with both Icy and Phoebe, but sometimes Phoebe and I travel by ourselves via airplane. I'm so glad you don't fly the cats in cargo, I never do it scares me too much! Icy is too big for the plane cabin but Phoebe fits just fine under the seat. I use a carrier whenever she travels by plane with me and sometimes by car as well so we can keep her safe & secure. Awesome giveaway!!

  26. What a great carrier & such a thoughtful prize during the 12 days of catmas! My cat Penguin always wiggles whenever he has to get in his carrier. I like how this Sherpa carrier has been created with a feline's comfort in mind and also comes in 2 sizes. It also would give any traveler great peace of mind to have that travel Guarantee, to know that you will 100% be accepted or Sherpa will refund your flight costs. Looks like comfy carrier! Thank you for offering this prize!

  27. I have only ever gone very far with one of my cats, Jason; who was a senior and is no longer with us, though it had nothing to do with his travel experience! He rode under my plane seat and had a sedative. He was fine though I longed to hold him the entire time.

  28. This product looks fantastic. And cozy and safe. And practical. What else could one ask for?

  29. This look a like a pawsome carrier! None of us will travel via plane, because we are scaredy-cats, BUT we do need a comfortable ride to the VET... our current top loading carrier gets quite a work out. We would love to give this a try! Z-Girl said she saw lots of small dogs traveling this holiday, but no one was in a carrier this comfy!

  30. I don't travel with my cats. The only reason they "travel" is to go to the vets. However, I did have to "travel" with my dog, many, many times. And I say "travel" because it wasn't going anywhere fun - we had to go to Cornell University Hospital-Animal with my dog Gavan. He passed in June, due to cancer. We were bringing him to the CUH frequently for diagnosis, treatment, check ups. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive from our house. Didn't end up well, usually. He hated the vehicle. I don't miss those drives... but I miss him... and would give anything to have him back.

  31. she actually loves traveling so this would be a great thing to have!

  32. I haven't traveled with my cats except to go to the vet and for boarding.

  33. My cats do pretty well but I do like to keep them protected and safe when we travel.
