Learning About the Cat Daddy #ChewyInfluencer

Many of you know Mom Paula recently retired in March 2017. She's been busy trying to tie up loose ends with her retirement, purge and reorganize the house, and readjust to a new lifestyle after almost 45 years of working. The last book she actually read (physical copy) was the Harry Potter books. She was so busy with research and reading nonfiction while working as a college professor and a program manager for Academic Affairs that she had little time for reading for relaxation. The first book she's read for enjoyment since her retirement is Cat Daddy from Jackson Galaxy.

Brulee checking out Cat Daddy by Jackson Galaxy

We discovered Jackson Galaxy by watching his television show on Animal Planet called My Cat from Hell. To be honest, we'd heard about this show a year or two before watching it, but didn't know much about it and the title turned us off. However, we began hearing more about Jackson Galaxy through our blogging friends and the Internet. Mom Paula fell in love with the show and even though we aren't behavior problems, she's learned a lot about working with us from watching his show. Chewy.com offered us the opportunity to receive his first book,  Cat Daddy: What The World’s Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean, as part of the Chewy Influencer program this month. We had no idea Chewy.com sold books, but Mom Paula has wanted to read this book and immediately responded she'd like to receive it.

Mom Paula and Jackson Galaxy

Mom Paula was lucky to meet Jackson Galaxy in person at Global Pet Expo in March 2017. She will talk more about their conversation in a future post, but she said he was so nice and easy to talk to, especially when it came to cats. They chatted approximately 30 minutes about the show, some of his products, and about cats (specifically about us). After the conversation, Mom Paula realized she missed an opportunity to get his book and to have it autographed! Now she has the book and hopes to get the opportunity to meet him again for the autograph.

Brulee encourages everyone to read Cat Daddy

Mom Paula read the entire book in three days! The book isn't what one would expect at first. We thought it would be a "how to" book about cats and stories from Jackson about cats he's worked with. This book was so different - in fact, it was very intense at times. Cat Daddy chronicles Jackson Galaxy's journey from a drug-addicted musician to a cat behaviorist, which began with his work at an animal shelter. His life really changed when he adopted Benny, a small grey and white cat, who was brought to the shelter after being hit by a car. There are many places in the book where Jackson shares his philosophy of Cat Mojo 101. He introduces his famous "Cat-I-Love-You" technique, the "Three-Step Handshake," and "Don't Be a Litter Box Baby" method.

This book is written from Jackson Galaxy's perspective of his life and growth during that time. The language can be strong and raw at times, but it's connected to that point in his life. I wouldn't recommend this as a children's book, but it is definitely a book a cat lover should read.

Cat Daddy: What The World’s Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean can be purchased from Chewy.com for $8.16. It is a 304-page paperbook book that is easy to carry along everywhere you go for some informative and enjoyable reading. Chewy.com has other books about cats that are published by Random House. We suggest you add a few of these books with your order of cat food, treats, toys, or litter and save on shipping. As always, Chewy.com offers free 2-day shipping if your order totals more than $49.00.

  1. My human read Jackson's book when it first came out, and it reminded her of a lot of her own life in the 1980s and early 1990s - she knew a lot of people like him.

  2. This looks like a fun read. I haven't learned much about JG - but this book would easily fix that!

  5. We are mostly glad that yer Mom is enjoying her retirement (as TBT is also doing) and catching up on things. Some Beins don't make the transition very well. Yer Mom had a great career. TBT was the Telecommunications Manager for a Federal Agency. He says stopping managing lots of complicated things and helping lots of Beins then just managin yerself takes some adjustment. We are lucky he isn't making us learn fancy tricks, MOL!

The hardest part fer him is that he hasnt found his "slow-down" button yet... He is ALLUS doin something.

  6. We love Jackson Galaxy, and we didn't know about this book. It sounds like a kind of autobiography, and we hope it's available here. We're glad your mom is enjoying her retirement and adjusting so well to her new routines. Purrs

  7. Mama read it when it came out--it was quite a good read! We donated our copy (which was autographed--someone got it for us) to Purrfect Pals when we moved because we knew that would likely bring in some good bids on the auction!

  13. I'm always interested in reading new books and this sounds like something very personal and raw- a must read! A feline behaviorist friend met Jaxson Galaxy at an event in NYC recently and was completely awestruck. It sounds like animals really changed his life for the better.
