Fancy Treats for Fancy Ladycats #chewyinfluencer

Truffle and Brulee waiting for Mom Paula to open the Purely Fancy Feast® treats

Disclosure:  As members of the Chewy.com Blogger Outreach Program, we received a bag of Purely Fance Feast® natural treats for free in exchange for our fair and honest review.  Chewy.com is not responsible for the contents of this post.  Sweet Purrfections only shares products and information we feel will be of interest to our readers.

We're happy to share the delicious Purely Fancy Feast® Natural treats we received from Chewy.com this month.  We haven't eaten Fancy Feast in a long time, but when we saw these treats listed as 100% natural meat, we said we had to have them.  Did you know that the cats that are used in the Fancy Feast commercials are silver shaded/chinchilla Persians like us?  Brulee still thinks she could be a model for Fancy Feast.

The after effects of Brulee and Truffle eating their treats

We chose the hand-selected chicken treats because we love chicken.   The Purely Fancy Feast Natural treats are available in four varieties -  chicken, tuna, salmon, and a variety pack.  When you open the bag, there are 10 packets that contain one individual piece of the Purely Fancy Feast treat. Once Mom Paula opened one of the packets, it didn't take long for us to begin begging. The piece of chicken was tender and delicious. Brulee, who is our finicky little girl, immediately began eating the treat and tried to eat the entire piece by herself.  Each treat is steam-baked and flaked to that purrfect texture; not too dry and not too juicy.  There are no fillers, which make them the ideal treat for cats with allergies and food sensitivities.

Brulee eating the Purely Fancy Feast piece of chicken

The label states that you can feed one pack per 2 pounds of body weight, but not to exceed four packs a day.  We could have easily taken care of the entire package in one sitting, but Mom Paula only let us have one pack.  She did break the piece of chicken into smaller pieces for us to eat.  As you can see below, both of us loved the treats.

You can currently purchase the Purely Fancy Feast Natural treats from Chewy.com for $3.75 per package.  We know we'll get more of these treats because they are healthy, easy to feed, and tasty.

Don't forget you can get free 1-2 day shipping from Chewy.com with orders that total $49+ and the customer service from Chewy.com is excellent.  The best part for us kitties is the box and packing paper that is left over.  Mom Paula tends to leave the box out for us to play in for a few days.

Keeping Grandma Faye Relaxed

Truffle is doing her best to help Grandma Faye relax.  Both Grandma Faye and Mom Paula have been at the hospital every day helping the doctors and nurses take care of Grandpa Paul. Truffle is very relaxed with Grandma Faye and she thinks if Grandma Faye holds her long enough, she'll learn to relax, too.
Truffle and Grandma Faye

Continued purrs, prayers, and good thoughts for Grandpa Paul.  Mom Paula and Grandma Faye will still be visiting the hospital for several more days.

Flashback of Baby Truffle and Remembering Sweet Praline

We feel so bad!  Yesterday was Angel Sweet Praline's 21 birthday at the bridge.  Normally, we post a photo graphic wishing her well, but Mom Paula was at the hospital all day long this weekend with Grandpa Paul and she totally forgot it was Praline's birthday.  To honor Praline, we went back to a photo of Truffle during her first month with Mom Paula (September 2011) sitting beside Sweet Praline's urn and memory photo.  Mom Paula truly believes that Praline sent Truffle to her to help heal the hole in her heart.  We think Praline was having a blast at the bridge with all of our angel kitties who've joined her the past few years.  Happy Birthday, Sweet Praline.
Baby Truffle on her cat tree and Sweet Praline's ashes and memory photo in the cabinet beside her.

Mom Paula:  There are times when I remember Praline that I have sad thoughts and the tears begin falling.  Most of the time, I remember her with a smile.  Praline came into my life when it was falling apart and she helped me survive those 15 1/2 years she was on this earth.  I honestly believe Praline communicates with Truffle (and possibly Brulee) to help her take care of me.  A few  years ago, I talked to an animal communicator and she told me that Praline did communicate with Truffle on a regular basis.  I know all of my human friends understand the connections we have with our fur children and that connection is never broken, even when they are gone.  Happy Birthday at the bridge, my sweet diva!

Caturday Art

We'd forgotten about LunaPic for special effects and couldn't believe all the possibilities when we visited it again.  We used the Kandinsky Art effect for our Caturday Art creation today.  If you look closely, you can see Truffle's head behind Brulee.  We thought this effect was really cool!  Can you identify all of the items in the piece of art below?

Flashback Friday with Baby Truffle

Truffle is beautiful, but she's been a little stinker ever since she came out from her hiding places back in September 2011.  Every time Mom Paula turned around, Truffle was into something.  You've seen our lovely pink Peggy Blankie that was purchased for us from Auntie ML.  As you can see in the photo below, Truffle preferred to pull it off the couch instead of sleeping on it.
Baby Truffle and her Peggy Blankie (September 2011)

Truffle would go full blast for hours, tearing all over the house, climbing on furniture, jumping across the room, and then all of a sudden, she'd crash and sleep.  Mom Paula remembers being worn out that first 6 weeks before Brulee joined us and both Truffle and Brulee could keep each other entertained.

Petlinks® Kitty Package Review and Giveaway

Brulee and Truffle with their first Petlinks® cat product - the Dream Curl
Disclosure:  We received a Petlinks® kitty package from Worldwise® in exchange for our fair and honest review and to host a giveaway for our readers.  Worldwise is not responsible for the contents of this post.  Sweet Purrfections only shares products and information we feel will be of interest to our readers.

Mom Paula met with some wonderful people at Global Pet Expo this past Spring and was pleased to see some of the products from Petlinks® on display.  We'd had a few of their products since we were kittens, but had no idea all of the different products available for cats.  Petlinks is known for their innovative, solution-based, and environmentally responsible products.

The Petlinks System™ is created by a community of vets, pet experts, and pet parents to help find the products that will help fulfill our emotional, instinctual, and physical needs. The Petlinks System involves play, scratch, wellness, litter, retreat and rest.  Petlinks products are designed to meet or exceed all applicable safety standards. They proudly display this seal on all of their packaging which declares the principles that form everything they do:  pet safety, customer satisfaction, and environmental responsibility.

We're happy to share a few of our favorite Petlinks products with you.

Dream Curl™ Multi-Surface Scratcher Cat Toy

Brulee investigates the catnip toy underneath the Dream Curl.

We've had a Petlinks Dream Curl Multi-Surface Scratcher since we were kittens.  Mom Terri had one in her home when Mom Paula went down to visit and all of the kittens were playing on, around, and under it.  Grandma Faye bought one for us and it was the first piece of furniture we had in our new home.  The Dream Curl has a both sisal and carpet surfaces to satisfy our scratching needs.  The Dream Curl has an s-shape that provides curved angles to provide stimulation, rest, and hang-out nooks for us kitties.  There is an attached catnip toy to add to our enjoyment.  As kittens, we played all over our Dream Curl.  As an adult, Brulee loves to rest on the Dream Curl.  Brulee will rest her front paws on the raised part of the Dream Curl and stare at Mom Paula.  We've already gone through two of these scratchers, so this came at the perfect time.

Tea Zing™ Tea Bag Cat Toy

Truffle sniffs the aroma of catnip in the Petlinks® Tea Zing Tea Bag before going crazy.

We shared a photo of Truffle playing with the Petlinks Tea Zing Tea Bag Catnip Toy a couple of days ago.  Truffle loves catnip and will go crazy when she first sniffs it.  In fact, Mom Paula has to monitor Truffle because she tends to get a little aggressive when she's on her "catnip high" and may attack Brulee.  Brulee just licks catnip toys.  The Tea Zing Catnip toy is shaped like a tea bag and is filled with pure and potent organic catnip.  They come in a package of 3 tea bags and are very easy for kitties to carry around.

Mystery Motion™ Concealed Electronic Motion Toy

Brulee waiting for Mom Paula to open the box and put the batteries in the Mystery Motion toy.

The Petlinks Mystery Motion Concealed Electronic Motion Cat Toy is very similar to our other battery-operated toy we reviewed a couple of weeks ago. The Mystery Motion toy has quick and erratic movements that imitate real pray.  There are four speed settings and when turned on, we never know which direction it's going to go.  As much as we try to ignore it, the erratic movements keep bringing us back to play with it.  This toy satisfies our need to hunt and encourages exercise for even the laziest of kitties.  Mom Paula likes this toy because we can play with it by ourselves for long periods of time - long after Mom Paula's arm would get tired with other interactive toys. This toy requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

Purr Heaven Memory Foam Bed

Truffle waiting for Mom Paula to turn away so she can rest in her Purr Heaven Memory Foam Bed

We have to admit that we were a little jealous when Mom Paula got a memory foam mattress a couple of years ago and we insisted on sleeping on it because of the comfort. Now we have our own memory foam bed with the Purr Heaven Pet Bed.  The bed is made of a 100% polyester fiber material and is safe for all pets, but the unique shape and size is perfect for us kitties.  The bed features a thick memory foam padding and there are tall walls that make it a comfortable seat for us.  The bed is a beautiful Rose Leaf color that matches almost any decor.  The bed is 17" x 17" x 9" and is machine washable.  Mom Paula knows we must sleep in the bed because she sees our fur inside the bed, but she can never catch us in it.  Mom Paula says she wishes the bed were a little larger because she'd love to sleep on it because of how it feels.

Sunday Selfie

Brulee is doing much better this week compared to last week, so she wanted to participate on The Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfie Blog Hop.
Brulee's Sunday Selfie

Mom Paula:  I wanted to add a little update.  My little Brulee was a very sick kitty a week ago.  Both Truffle and Brulee went on the medication and Truffle had a reaction to it, so I took her off of it.  The vet said that if Brulee were better and still lethargic that I could take her off of it too because she'd been on it for 7 days.  I chose to take both of them off of the medication.

For about a week, they've both tended to stay away from me - like they didn't trust me.  Truffle finally came out of her shell a couple of days ago.  Sweet little Brulee wouldn't even jump on my bed in the mornings to get her daily treat because she thought I may grab her and give her medication.  Even this morning, I had to throw the treats towards her in the hallway to get her into the bedroom.  I admit, I was a little depressed about this.

To my happiness, this afternoon as I was waking up from my afternoon nap, Brulee jumped on the bed and snuggled up next to me.  Unfortunately, the phone rang and she jumped off.  When I sat up in the bed, Brulee jumped back up, climbed on my lap (which is rare), and we had some snuggling time for about 30 minutes.  I was able to clean her eyes and work on some mats that have formed over the past week.  I know many people probably go through this when their animals are sick, but it's been a long 10 days with my girls sick and avoiding me.

Thank you for all of your support in the blogging community.  It  means more than I can say!

Open Bubbles, Please

Brulee is feeling better and is waiting for Mom Paula to open the bubbles so she can play a little bit.
Brulee and Bubbles
Brulee says this is the only type of liquid she wants for a while (except for water)

Both girls are off of their medication at the recommendation of the vet.  Mom Paula talked to a few vets when she was in NYC this past week and they said a lot of cats don't like liquid medication. We've never had a problem before, but we guess because we're five years old now; we don't like that liquid stuff.  We hope we don't need to get on medication anytime soon again!

Out of Hiding

Mom Paula was really worried about Truffle this weekend.  It appears Truffle was having a reaction to the antibiotics both she and Brûlée were taking.  You'll remember that Truffle had a slightly elevated temperature when Brûlée was rushed to the vet last week with a high fever.  The vet thought it would be a good idea to treat Truffle, too.  Truffle was getting sick, not eating, and hiding and Sunday was the worst!  Mom Paula decided to end the medication Sunday afternoon because Truffle was so miserable.  About 10 hours after the last dose, Truffle finally came out of hiding, played a little, and even let Mom Paula touch her.  Mom Paula did talk to the vet yesterday and he agreed it was ok to take Truffle off the medication.  We're happy Truffle is getting back to normal.

Brûlée still has a little bit of sniffles, but she is doing much better.

Special note:  if the post looks weird today it's because Mom Paula us in NYC and she's trying to do this from her iPad.  It's not as easy.

2017 Blogging Cats Calendar

It's time for submissions of photos for the Blogging Cats Calendar.  Submissions are open for anyone who has a blog and includes their cat(s) in posts on a regular basis.  Please read the information below and send your photos/collage by October 1, 2016 for consideration to be included in the calendar.  We'll keep everyone updated on the progress on the Cats Calendar webpage or you can click on the graphic on our sidebar.

We’re very excited to announce that we’re designing the Blogging Cats Weekly Planner Calendar again for 2017. This is the 3rd calendar we've put together for the cat blogging community.  The spiral bound 2015 and 2016 calendars were a huge success and everyone was pleased with the quality, so we're moving forward with another one for 2017.  The planner will be a spiral-bound, weekly planner, with pictures on one page and the week in view on the facing page. We're including special holidays, events in the blogging world, and other pertinent information in the calendars this year.

Each blog can submit three to seven photos, which can include one of each of your cats or group pictures. If you have one or two kitties, find the best 3-7 photos and send them to us. Consideration for inclusion in the calendar will be based on first come-first serve, as long as the quality of the photos is evident. This format would allow for approximately 54 blogs.  If we still need more images, we will send out another notice.

All photos should be “natural” photos of your kitties and not “photo shopped”.  We want this calendar to show the beauty of the blogging cats in their natural environment.  The photos should be clear, bright, and focused.  The photos should be in a variety of  orientations (portrait, landscape, and square). If you would like to design your own collage and send that to us, please make sure the collage is in portrait mode and measures 8" x 10" at 300 dpi.. If you choose to design your own collage, please follow the design of the sample collage below (colored space between the photos). Please remove any watermarks or names from the photos prior to submitting.  Your blog name and URL address will be included on the page and there will be a statement on the cover sheet that acknowledges that the photos are the property of the individuals.

Please send your photos to us by midnight, October 1, 2016.  We’d like to have the calendar completed by the end of October, so we can submit the order to the publisher in time for people to purchase for the holidays. Please send pictures of your cats to us at sweetpurrfections@sc.rr.com.  Make sure you include the phrase “2017 Blogging Cats Calendar” in the subject line

Important Information about of what to include in the email:
  1. Send up to 7 photos
  2. Provide the names of the of the kitty(ies) in the photo.  Ideally, the name of the file would be the name of the cat(s).
  3. Name of blog
  4. Blog address

Format of collage:

Sunday Selfie

Truffle came out of hiding a little bit this afternoon to  pose for her Sunday Selfie.  Even though she wasn't as sick as Brulee, her temperature was slightly elevated so the vet thought it would be a good idea to have both girls on the medication.  Truffle doesn't agree with this decision and is basically being antisocial.  The only time she's getting close to Mom Paula is when Mom Paula is asleep at night.  We have 9 more days of our medication.  We do have to say that Truffle's eye drainage is looking better.

Caturday Art

We went back to one of our favorite photo editing programs, Pho.to.com, for our Caturday Art creation today.  We used the kaleidoscope effect of Truffle.  This is very appropriate this weekend because her world was turned crazy this week when she was rushed off to the vet with Brulee and it turned out Truffle also had a slight fever.  The vet recommended Truffle take the medication, too. She's taken the same medication in the past, but when Mom Paula went to give it to her the first time, Truffle moved, and the liquid medication went to the front of Truffle's tongue where she tasted the bitterness of medication.  Truffle will try to hold the medication in her mouth until Mom Paula lets her loose.  The first time, Truffle had it all over herself.  Mom Paula now holds Truffle until Truffle swallows it. Truffle then hides for the next hour.

Happy Healthy Cat Month

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month.  We are usually pretty healthy kitties and Mom Paula does all she can to keep us happy and healthy.  Many of you know that Brulee had to be rushed to the vet Wednesday morning with a high fever and difficulty breathing.  She's doing better and we hope she'll be back to her happy and healthy self by the end of the weekend.

Happy Healthy Cat Month Tips

Here are some Happy, Healthy Cat Month Tips by Dr. Danielle Bernal, a veterinarian with Wellness® Natural Pet Food.
Baby Truffle Playing
Truffle(2011) playing with Mom Paula

Instinctively, felines are natural hunters. Help your cat or kitten stay on top of their skills with plenty of play time together. Not only does this keep your cat active to support a healthy weight, it also keeps stress levels down and encourages bonding for a happy, purring kitty. Just be sure that you keep any laser pointers away from your cat’s eyes!
Truffle and the water bottle
Truffle knows water is important

Cats don’t always like to drink water. While they may not have the same thirst drive as dogs, that doesn’t make hydration any less important. Wet meal toppers, like Wellness® TruFood® Complements, are a great way to mix up your cat’s meals with flavor and texture, and get some extra moisture in their diet. Made with vibrant whole foods and five natural ingredients or fewer, they’re a simple way to enhance cats’ existing diets and ensure they’re getting all the nutrients they need. Add them to your furry friend’s dry food, or feed separately as an exciting snack during the day! (Special note:  we haven't tried this yet, but we love Wellness products.)
Brulee on scales

Due to their sedentary lifestyles, indoor cats are especially prone to weight gain, which can lead to a wide variety of health issues. That’s why it’s essential that your cat’s diet features a well-rounded mix of proteins, fats and nutrients to support a healthy weight. Balanced recipes made with quality proteins and produce, like Wellness® Complete Health™ Indoor Health, are made specifically for felines that lounge more than they lunge to keep them feeling (and looking!) their best.
Truffle and Brulee with scratching post
Truffle and Brulee know the importance of  using a scratching post

Cats experience boredom, too, and they can express it in ways you may not be so fond of, such as chasing other pets or shredding household items like curtains and furniture. Excite your feline friend by bringing a taste of the wild indoors, with perches by a sunny window or potted plants that are cat friendly. A few to avoid are tulips, lilies and English ivy–these are all toxic for pets!
Truffle getting combed
Truffle gets groomed by Mom Paula

Hairballs are unpleasant for cats and pet parents alike, but they can be managed with some extra grooming time and a proper diet.  Hairballs happen when stray hairs get stuck in the digestive tract as a result of self-grooming, and cats spend nearly 20% of their waking hours grooming. However, a few minutes of daily brushing can help catch those loose hairs before your cat does. Also look for recipes made with special blends of natural fiber, like Wellness® Natural Hairball Control, to help prevent hairballs from forming and keep kitty comfortable.
Truffle eating treats
Truffle loves treats

Many pet parents love to treat their dogs with healthful snacks, but cats like treats too, and treating helps reinforce the bond between pet and pet parent. Look for recipes that are low in calories so you can treat them without feeling guilty. New Wellness® Kittles™ recipes have under two calories per morsel so you can treat kitty multiple times per day. They’re also available in six flavorsome varieties, like Turkey & Cranberries and Duck & Cranberries, to accommodate every cat’s palate.

Brulee's Unexpected Trip to the Vet

Brulee was scheduled to visit the vet in a few weeks for her annual checkup, but plans were changed yesterday morning when Mom Paula woke up.  Usually, Brulee comes running into the bedroom (if she's not there already) when Mom Paula wakes up to get a treat.  When Mom Paula woke up, Truffle was on the bed, but Brulee was nowhere to be found,.  Even when Mom Paula shook the treats and walked through the house, still no Brulee.  Mom Paula finally found her under one of the corner shelves beside the computer.  When Mom Paula pulled her out, Brulee was breathing hard and her fur was wet on her chest.  Mom Paula immediately put Brulee in her Sleepypod and called the vet.  The vet said to bring her right in.
Brulee in her red Sleepypod waiting to see the vet

By the time Mom Paula also gathered up Truffle and they got to the vet, Brulee was breathing from her mouth.  The vet tech took Brulee straight to the back of the hospital to check on her because they were so concerned about her breathing.  They took Mom Paula back to one of the cat examination rooms to wait.
How much longer, Mom?
Truffle waiting in her Sleepypod in the kitty examination room for Brulee's results

After several minutes (it felt like hours),  the vet tech came back in and said the vet wanted to get some chest x-rays because he didn't like the sound of her breathing.    Several minutes  passed again before Dr. Boyette (he was the first vet to see Brulee 5 years ago) in to talk to us.  Dr. Boyette said Brulee had a high temperature (104.9) and her breathing was labored.  He said the x-rays looked good to him, but they would need to be read by the radiologist.  Dr. Boyette also drew blood to check everything and said those results would be in by the afternoon.  He said they gave Brulee some IV fluids because he was concerned she wouldn't eat or drink with her fever.  He said Mom Paula could take her home and watch her and bring her back if the fever wasn't down.  Mom Paula asked if Brulee could stay the day so they could monitor her because Mom Paula had to complete a report at work. Mom Paula also asked if Dr. Boyette could take Truffle's temperature because Truffle's eyes began draining a couple of days ago.  Truffle's temperature was a little elevated, but not as high as Brulee's. Dr. Boyette said he was giving Brulee an antibiotic (the same as last fall) and Mom Paula asked if Truffle should be on it too and he said it would be a good idea.  They also talked about starting the girls on L-Lysine to see if it would help.  Truffle and Mom Paula went home, leaving Brulee at the vet for the day.
Brulee coming home from the vet

Mom Paula went to work and completed her report.  She then had about 7 proposals to read and evaluate and halfway through, she couldn't take it anymore (2:40 pm) so she called the vet to check on Brulee.  Dr. Boyette came to the phone and said her temperature had dropped from 104.9 to 103.9, which was an improvement.  He said the results of the x-rays showed everything within normal ranges.  While Mom Paula was talking to him, the results of the bloodwork came in and he happily told Mom Paula that everything looked good.  Mom Paula had a meeting to go to, but as soon as it was over at 4:00 pm, Mom Paula rushed (driving as safely as possible) to pick up her little girl.

Dr. Boyette came out to talk to Mom Paula about Brulee.  Dr. Boyette believes she has an upper respiratory infection (URI) and it could be herpes related since Truffle had a slightly elevated fever and draining eyes.  He said her temperature was now down to 103.3, but after a couple days of the antibiotic, she should be fine.  After paying the bill ($600+), Mom Paula took Brulee home.  On the way home, Brulee became a little stressed (usually she's relaxed in the car) and began breathing from her mouth again.  Mom Paula turned off the radio, unzipped the top of the Sleepypod, and petted Brulee for the 10 minute drive home.  If you look closely at the photo above, you can tell little Brulee wasn't feeling well.
Brulee sleeping off her fever and infection

Of course,Truffle became a little hissy when Brulee was let out of her Sleepypod because of the smells from being at the vet all day, but Mom Paula had put the pink Peggy blankie in the carrier to share smells.  Brulee did eat a little food and she slept the rest of the day.  Mom Paula had to give both of them the medication about 8:30 pm last night and neither was happy with her.  Truffle hid the rest of the night and Brulee slept in the hallway.  Mom Paula can still hear Brulee's raspy breathing, but we're purring she'll be okay  in a couple of days.  If Mom Paula didn't have a huge meeting at work today, she'd stay home.

Note about the Sleepypod and AAHA:

This isn't a sponsored post, but I want to tell you how much I love this carrier.  It's so easy to get the girls inside and I know they are safe once they are strapped in with the seatbelt.  The vets love the Sleepypod because they can get to the girls easier and put them back inside with little hassle.  When the vet assistant brought Brulee back from the back yesterday afternoon, she said they had put the Sleepypod in the cage with Brulee and Brulee slept inside it the entire time.  This is a wonderful carrier and I highly recommend you get one, if possible.

We continue to be impressed with Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital (the vets, the vet techs and assistants, and the staff) and the fact that it is AAHA accredited makes us more comfortable.  Mom Paula won a $100 giftcard to spend at an AAHA accredited hospital and we want them to know it was put to good use yesterday.  Now to find that other $500+ to pay the bill...

Please continue those purrs for Brulee, Truffle, and Mom Paula.
