National Truffle Day

Did you know that today is National Truffle Day?  Truffle is so excited that there is a national day devoted to her that everyone can celebrate!
Celebrating our beautiful Truffle

We know this day was designed for that delicious chocolate confectionery, which is where Truffle got her name because she is as sweet as the dessert namesake.

Some facts about National Truffle Day.

  • Observed annually on May 2
  • Truffles are traditionally made with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or coconut.
  • Truffles may be filled with cream melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, fruit, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, marshmallow, or liqueur.
It appears there is some disagreement about who invented truffles.  We found an interesting post about truffles and thought you'd enjoy reading about the history of the truffle.

Mom Paula selected the name Truffle for her beautiful fur child because she was sweet like the candy and Mom Paula loved eating white chocolate truffles.  We are sending a special treat with Mom Paula to BlogPaws 2017 for some of our special friends.

Auntie ML (We miss ML) sent Mom Paula this adorable truffle trinket in 2011 to celebrate the arrival of Truffle.  Mom Paula didn't realize until a couple of years later that the truffle opened up with this adorable saying and a little angel mouse under the removable plate with two truffles. Mom Paula keeps this truffle trinket beside Sweet Praline's and Beignet's ashes in the glass cabinet.

    1. Truffle is the only one with the dark nose. Did you notice that it's also heart-shaped? This isn't standard for the silver shaded Persians, but it makes her unique.

  6. My Truffles got that name because he had two white ruffles. If I'd been living somewhere with a greater population of Native Americans or First Nations Canadians, I might have called him Two Ruffles.

But are the chocolate Truffles named after the mushrooms, or the other way around?
