Kruuse BUSTER Pet Beds - Review & Giveaway

We haven't really used pet beds too much because we tend to sleep on Mom Paula's bed or the bed in the guest room. However, the last few months, especially when it was cold, we began sleeping in some of the beds designed specifically for us.  There are some beds we totally ignore and others we can't get enough of.

We recently received the BUSTER Cocoon Bed from Kruuse to see if we'd use it and to share our experience with our readers.  The bed was very soft with a thick, cushy pillow inside that can be removed.  The BUSTER bed collection is inspired by modern furniture trends and there are two designs (cocoon bed and sofa bed) that should blend into any decor.  The premium material used for the BUSTER bed is durable, easy to clean, and the pillow is machine washable and dryable.

The BUSTER series of pet beds are available in two designs (cocoon and sofa), three sizes (small, medium, large) and four colors (steel grey, artichoke green, leather brown, black plum) for our review purposes. Even though the website identifies the BUSTER bed as dog beds, they are definitely appropriate for dogs and cats.  You can see more detail about the beds by looking at pages 14-15 in the BUSTER catalog.

The small bed fits pets who weigh between 11-25 pounds and is 18 inches wide. We weigh a little over 8 pounds and you can see how comfortable Truffle is in the bed in the photo below.  The medium bed is 25.5 inches and the large bed is 29.5 inches.  Mom Paula tempted Truffle by throwing one of her catnip toys in the bed and to her surprise, Truffle snuggled into the bed and played with her toy. Brulee still prefers resting on top of one of her scratchers because she likes to rest off the ground so Truffle can't surprise her while she'd sleeping.  Truffle goes to the BUSTER cocoon pet bed on a daily basis to play with her toys.

Throwback Thursday

I love looking back and seeing photos of the girls when they were kittens.  Truffle was definitely the motherly type when Brulee first came to live with us in 2011.  The would bathe her, put her paw protectively around her, and snuggle up to her.  They've been with me a little over 5 years now and things are different.  They truly act like sisters.  They don't cuddle like they used to, but they will still bathe each other. I thought this quote and the photo from December 2011 was perfect for my current mood.

Out with the Old

Our guest bedroom has been blue and white since 2003 when Mom Paula moved back into her house after being gone for 10 years (Ph.D. and college professor).  Since her retirement, she's trying to purge, clean, and reorganize our home for our new life together.  The first thing she decided to do was to make more room in the guest bedroom.  We've gone from a full size bed and dresser to a daybed with a smaller chest and TV stand.  We can't wait to show you our new color scheme once everything is in place.  We're still waiting on a few items.  In the meantime, Brulee says goodbye to the beautiful blue and white comforter set.

She's Coming Home!

We just received notification that Mom  Paula is packed and coming home.
The swag from BlogPaws

Mom Paula:  I've really missed my girls.  The pet sitter kept me up-to-date on how they were doing and I could watch them through the PetCube Play.  However, I don't think Truffle has done too well while I've been gone.  I believe they've gotten used to me being home since the retirement. I can't wait to see them again and to share with everyone about BlogPaws 2017 this year.

Caturday Art

Brulee tries to hide in the top of the cat tree to escape from Truffle and other people.  She thinks she is an illusion in her perch, so we used the "illusion" effect in LunaPic for our Caturday Art graphic today.

Brulee Cat Ears

Mom Paula spend some time in the Cat Lounge at BlogPaws yesterday making a pair of cat ears and they ended up resembling Brulee's ears and fur horns.  We'll share more photos about the Cat Lounge and the making of the ears later.

My Pet is My Therapist

Can you believe Mom Paula almost forgot about posting our blog today?  We can't miss our record of posting every single day, so we thought we'd share a quick photo of Mom Paula with our Flats at the Bayer booth at BlogPaws.  We'll post more later.

Brulee's Grooming Session with the Pet Sitter

Mom Paula received this photo from DJ, the pet sitter yesterday.  DJ said she was able to groom Brulee everywhere except for the belly (that's normal with Mom Paula, too).  She said Truffle ate some treats but walked away when it was photo time.  We hope Truffle will get used to DJ this time since she's not getting medication.  We love this photo of Brulee with all of her freshly groomed whiskers!

Mom Paula also got her kitten fix with the three foster kittens Jeanne Kudich from Random Felines, brought to BlogPaws.  Mom Paula was spotted cuddling up next to Gucci, and adorable little ginger.

The BlogPaws 2017 conference kicks off this afternoon.  We can't wait to share all of the exciting activities with everyone.

The Flats Have Arrived

Good morning everyone!  Mom Paula and our Flat Kitties have arrived at Myrtle Beach for a little rest and relaxation before the BlogPaws conference.  Since Mom Paula has stayed at this hotel several times, she asked for a special room with a view, and wow, what a view!
View of Myrtle Beach from the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center

Since we aren't used to traveling yet (except for vet trips), we sent our Flat Kitties to the conference with our special swag this year. Aunt Vicky made up these lovely sparkly netted swag bags that include a praline (made in SC) and a creme brulee truffle.  Praline was the foundation of Mom Paula beginning to blog almost 9 years ago, so it makes sense the praline is on the bottom.  Six years ago this summer, Sweet Purrfections was formed and our names were in honor of Praline and the sweet French/New Orleans desserts.  We couldn't believe we found a truffle that had creme brulee flavoring. There are a limited number of these delicious desserts in Mom Paula's room, so make sure you stop by and say hello.

In the meantime, we'll be guarding the swag!

Sneaking into the Luggage

Well, it's finally here!  Mom Paula is leaving for BlogPaws and she is leaving us home.  Our pet sitter, DJ, will check on us daily and Grandma Faye will also come over, but it's not the same without Mom Paula.  She wanted to take us with her to BlogPaws when they announced it would be in Myrtle Beach this year, but with everything that happened with work, her parents, and some personal issues, she didn't have time to work with us on harness training and traveling.  We're sending the Flats with her for some photo ops.
Truffle checking to see if there is room for her in the suitcase

Mom Paula has tried to have the luggage out for several days so the girls would be used to seeing it. The vet thinks Truffle may have some separation anxiety, so Mom Paula tried to be as calm as possible and packed a little bit at a time (except for last night!).  Truffle explored the suitcases.  It's as if she were saying, "I think there's room for me in here."
Maybe this one will fit

We will be okay and will probably get into some mischief while Mom Paula is gone.  She'll share some photos and updates on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram while she is gone.

Sunday Selfies with Our Mom Kitties

We're very lucky that we know how our mom kitties are and that we have photos of them.  Since it's Mother's Day today, we thought we'd share a photos of our mom kitties and us as adults for our Sunday Selfies.

Truffle's mom kitty is Chloe.  She is a beautiful silver shaded Persian with huge green eyes like Truffle.

Brulee's mom kitty is an amazing golden shaded Persian named Mikayla.  From what Mom Terri tells us, Mikayla has a quirky personality like Brulee.

We hope everyone has a happy Mother's Day, especially with your human moms.  We know our human mom, Paula, loves us with every fiber of her being and would sacrifice herself to take care of us.

Caturday Art

We thought Truffle would look good in watercolor today.  We used LunaPic with the watercolor effect.  We then used PicMonkey to add the green back into her eyes (LunaPic had them yellow) and to add a frame.  This photo makes Truffle look like a tabby kitty.  She almost has Sweet Praline's caramel coloring, which is pretty special to us.

New Bed

Truffle is proud to present our new bed for the guest room.  Aunt Vicky thinks this bed is hers to sleep on, but we've already claimed it as ours.  Mom Paula is trying to downsize a lot of "stuff" in the house, so she got rid of our full-size bed and dresser and bought a daybed and smaller chest.  We claimed the bed as soon as the delivery men left.  We can wait to show you the finished room once it's complete.  Have a great weekend!

Waking Up with Brulee

Truffle is usually the dominant kitty in the family, but Brulee is claiming the bed as her own, especially when Mom Paula is in it.
Waking up to Brulee

Who wouldn't want to wake up to this bundle of fur every morning?

Mom Paula:  Brulee isn't a cat who loves to be held and rest on your lap.  However, she is a little love bug when I'm in the bed.  She will meow and climb into my lap and will purr up a storm.  She doesn't do this in any other part of the house.

Our Bed is Gone

We've had our special bed in the guest room since we were kittens.  There was the lovely blue and white quilt and we loved to rest on the foot of the bed because it was directly beneath the ceiling fan. We noticed something different this past weekend.
Where is our comforter?

The comforter and sheets were taken off the bed.  We thought they were being washed (just so we could fuzz them up again) but the bedding disappeared and all that was left was the mattress.
Truffle and Brulee resting at the foot of the bed beneath the ceiling fan.

After a little investigating, we did what kitties would normally do.  We made ourselves comfortable at the foot of the bed underneath the ceiling fan, took a bath, and laid down for a little nap.  The next morning, to our surprise, everything was gone!  We explored the room all day but couldn't find our bed or dresser.
Brulee and Truffle exploring the empty room

We don't know what happened to everything.  This stuff has been here for over 6 years and now it's gone.  What will we do?  What will we sleep on?  What's happening?

Stay tuned...

BlogPaws 2017 and Pet Friendly Myrtle Beach

Can you believe BlogPaws 2017 is next week?  We've been excited about the conference being in our beautiful state of South Carolina since it was announced last year in Phoenix. Myrtle Beach is about three hours from our house, so we sent Mom Paula to the beach to check out some of the pet friendly locations.  To help her with this exploration, Mom Paula brought her parents and their dog, Bandit along for the trip. Most of the information found below can be found online, but we wanted to consolidate it for you in a convenient location.

Caturday Art

Back to LunaPic today for our Caturday Art Creation.  Brulee selected the "beauty" effect because she's so beautiful.  Little did she realize that the effect would present her in a multitude of colors.  We went to PicMonkey to add the green back to her eyes and add a photo frame.

Thankful Thursday

Wow! It's hard to believe it's been almost 6 years ago when this photo was taken of Truffle in 2011. She was such a curious kitten (which frequently got her into trouble) and she is still called "Trouble Truffle."  As a kitten, Truffle got stuck between the front door and storm door, jumped on top of the tall secretary desk, climbed down into the sofa and was stuck to the point Mom Paula had to cut the materials to get her out, was trapped under the recliner, and was shut in the closet all day. She can be a determined little kitty when she wants something.  Mom Paula has to keep a close eye on her at all times. No matter how much trouble she gets into, Mom Paula is so thankful Truffle came into her life.

National Truffle Day

Did you know that today is National Truffle Day?  Truffle is so excited that there is a national day devoted to her that everyone can celebrate!
Celebrating our beautiful Truffle

We know this day was designed for that delicious chocolate confectionery, which is where Truffle got her name because she is as sweet as the dessert namesake.

Some facts about National Truffle Day.

  • Observed annually on May 2
  • Truffles are traditionally made with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or coconut.
  • Truffles may be filled with cream melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, fruit, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, marshmallow, or liqueur.
It appears there is some disagreement about who invented truffles.  We found an interesting post about truffles and thought you'd enjoy reading about the history of the truffle.

Mom Paula selected the name Truffle for her beautiful fur child because she was sweet like the candy and Mom Paula loved eating white chocolate truffles.  We are sending a special treat with Mom Paula to BlogPaws 2017 for some of our special friends.

Auntie ML (We miss ML) sent Mom Paula this adorable truffle trinket in 2011 to celebrate the arrival of Truffle.  Mom Paula didn't realize until a couple of years later that the truffle opened up with this adorable saying and a little angel mouse under the removable plate with two truffles. Mom Paula keeps this truffle trinket beside Sweet Praline's and Beignet's ashes in the glass cabinet.

Cats and Insomnia

Truffle sleeping peacefully

Mom Paula:  I wish I could sleep as well as the girls do.  I've taken sleeping aid medication for the past 6-7 years and I still only get about 5-6 hours of sleep.  I know my mind is constantly going, thinking about things that I need to do and worrying about things I have no control over.  Truffle and Brulee can sleep as if they don't have a care in the world.  I could learn a lot from watching my cats.
