Reflecting Back on a Month

Mom Paula has been retired for a month now and we thought we'd reflect back on the past month to let you know how our life has changed.
Truffle and Brulee are getting more time with Mom Paula

  • First, she's home a lot more with us.  No more getting up early in the morning, leaving all day, and getting home late at night and then sitting at the computer still doing office work.  We're getting a little spoiled having her home with us and the two of us are actually beginning to sit closer together in order to be nearer to Mom Paula.
  • The house looks like a tornado hit it!  Mom Paula had to bring home her personal stuff from the office and there are boxes all over the place:  papers that need to be shredded, little "doodads", and official documents that need to be filed.  Mom Paula hasn't touched anything yet because she's a little blue because of the change.  We're sure other humans have gone through this and we hope it will be over soon.
  • We have lots of new kitty (and pet) items that have arrived for us to review and giveaway.  Because of all of the boxes, we can't find a clear spot in the house to take a good photograph.
  • Mom Paula has been busy helping to take care of Grandpa Paul and Grandma Faye.  He is home from the hospital, but his recovery is slow.  Since Mom Paula only lives 5 miles away, she's spending a lot of time with them.
  • Mom Paula had eye surgery last week to fix a cataract.  She says she can finally see, even though she's using 3 different medical drops (4 times a day) for a month.  For about two months, she was having problems seeing the computer screen and the music when she was playing the piano at church.
  • Mom Paula was selected as a BlogPaws 2017 Ambassador for the conference at Myrtle Beach that will be held May 18-20, 2017 at the Sheraton Convention Center Hotel.  Mom Paula wishes she could take us to the conference since we only live about 3 hours away, but we haven't traveled too much and she doesn't want to stress us in such a new environment.  We're sending our Flat Selves with her.

Don't forget to register for the conference before it's sold out.  You can get a 10% discount on the registration by using our Ambassador discount code:  BP17-10off-Ambassador.  You can get the information you need for registration hereYou can find more information about BlogPaws at http://blogp.ws/EverythingBP17. This post includes links to registration, hotel reservations, the BlogPaws 2017 schedule, and other valuable information.  We're sending our woofie cousin, Bandit, with Mom Paula next week for a photo shoot at some pet friendly locations at Myrtle Beach and will share with you.

  12. It's been a month of adjustment, we sure, but having Mom Paula home all the time has to be great.

  13. Mom Paula sounds like she's been pretty darned busy, even in retirement. We are glad you are all getting to spend lots more time together, though. Sending purrs for Grandpa Paul.

  14. It is good that Mom Paula is taking her time going through all the boxes. It is OK to be blue and it will pass. You have enough to keep you busy and to occupy your mind that it will pass quickly!

  15. Dad can't even think about retirement any time soon, but I'm okay with that. I like having my mom time. Dad can stay at work. He also says he longs for a return trip to Myrtle Beach. Happy weekend!

  16. We know that retirement can be a lot busier that working...or so we hear!

  18. Mommy said cataract surgery, once it was over and she could get rid of those silly drops, was wonderful. Not only did she stop using a magnifying glass to read her two screens at work, sit a foot away from the tv, and actually read directions and stuff (and she's a reader) she loved looking at colors. She thought the ceilings in here were cream!
Retirement is busier than work. You know, petting kitties, playing with kitties, snuggling us, brushing us, maid service, food service, nappies with Mommy. Busy, busy!

  19. It looks like mom Paula has her hands full (can we say that ?) and is very busy ! Moreover, you and she need to adjust to that new schedule. We're glad you enjoy more time with her. Purrs

  20. When our mom had to stop working due to disabilities, she cried a lot at first. Most human's identity is wrapped up in their careers. Once your mom gets accustomed to it, she'll be a happy camper. It's been a busy time for all of you. 21. Sorry to hear about your eye and hopefully it will be good soon, as for being home more, I work from home and love it, although I am sure Layla sometimes says go out Mom please BOL

  22. More time with the pets is just so perfect. I keep trying to see if I can work from home more (I can if I can prove it's more effective) but most of the time my work means I have to be present. Still ... I'll keep trying.

  23. Ah, the notorious indoors tornadoes. We get those around here sometimes too. They do have a name - hubby.

  24. Keep busy doing things you love, or you will be bored stiff in weeks. Relax into a more meaured blogging regime and enjoy simply enoying your 'me time' with the girls.

I am SO glad you had your eye done and now will be firing on all cylinders for BlogPaws. You will DO FINE and you will BE FINE. You will give people a warm southern welcome and make their experience shine.

  25. I know that these kinds of life changes can be both exciting and a little terrifying. When my daughter went off to college, everyone said it would be amazing and that I'd have all this time to go do all these things I hadn't been able to do. In all honesty, I spent the first three months sitting on the couch trying to figure out who I was heading into the this next phase of life. It took me a little while (almost two years) to really get my bearings and, of course, just as I was redefining myself, my daughter decided to take some time off from college and move back home! ;-)

    1. Thank you. You do understand what I am going through. I've been so busy teaching, researching, and traveling that it really feels weird. It's almost like I'm not important anymore...

  26. I'm glad that the two of you are getting spoiled now that your mom is retired! I hope that she is taking some time for herself and healing well from her surgery. She has done so many amazing things in her life and now she finally gets to relax (which isn't as easy as it sounds). I'm looking very forward to the BlogPaws Conference and I can't wait to see your mom and the flat versions of the two of you. :)

  28. Big changes for all of you. Continue to offer Mom Paula your support. She'll find her new "groove" and life will be better than ever! Glad you girls are getting closer in spending more time with your mom.

  29. How fun to have your Mom around more. I am sure she will adapt quickly and enjoy doing more reviews and other things she might not have had time for. We can't wait to see here at BlogPaws. I am not bringing Kilo as it would stress him out too much.
