Gently Getting Rid of Tangles - Resco®

Have you ever tried to comb a squirmy cat who doesn't want to be groomed?  Mom Paula has struggled with us for five years.  She now has a solution.
Brulee watches closely as Mom Paula approaches her with the Resco® Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb

Grooming Persian cats can be a challenge because of their long and thick fur.  The silver shaded Persians tend to have a more cottony-soft fur that mats easily and really thin skin. Neither of us really like to be groomed, because, honestly, it tends to hurt!  Mom Paula has searched all over the past 5 years to find combs that are effective, yet gentle.  We shared our positive experiences with the Resco® Ergo Comb this past summer and it tends to be the favorite comb to groom both of us.  We encourage you to read our review of that comb.
Truffle allows Mom Paula to comb her soft fur with the Resco® Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb

Resco® Grooming and Handling Products sent us another type of comb to review:  the Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb.  We must tell you that this comb is so gentle on our sensitive skin.  This comb allows Mom Paula to work with removing our tangles a little easier because it doesn't pull our skin as much because of the rotating pins.  We've had rotating pin combs in the past, but they just didn't work as well on us as the traditional combs.  We also became little she-devils when it was time for grooming because the teeth of the combs were sharp and they pulled the mats and hurt our skin.  The Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb provides extra detangling help and is perfect for daily grooming.  Mom Paula finds that she needs to use the Resco Ergo Comb first because of it's long teeth that will get down into our thick fur. She then uses the Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb to try and gently comb out our mats, which is a daily challenge.  Brulee will actually sit for several minutes, allowing Mom Paula to comb her, without hissing, scratching, and biting, which was a common occurrence prior to the new combs.  We're happy to report that the grooming sessions are getting longer and less confrontational.  We still don't like to be groomed, but we're more tolerating now.
Brulee and Truffle present the Resco® Pro-Series Combs

The Resco® Pro-Series Rotating Pin Comb has an electroplated alloy metal handle with soft comfort grips that are ergonomically easier for your humans to use.   The traditional combs would slip out of Mom Paula's hands and she would get cramps trying to grip it and hold a squirmy cat at the same time.  This combs fits so comfortably in your hand that you don't even realize it's there.  Grooming the challenging fur of two Persians has definitely been an easier task with the Resco grooming products.  We know those of you with cats with almost all types of fur would love this comb and the other grooming products.

As you can see in the graphic from Resco Grooming and Handling Products above, the Pro-Series also offers a flea comb.  This comb has the same ergonomic design which makes it easy on your humans to use.  Mom Paula likes to use the flea comb on our face because of the smaller teeth.  This flea comb can be used on both dogs and cats.

  1. This looks like a great comb for long-haired cats. I often have problems with Ava and Charlie - their fur is prone to tangles and mats and they don't always like to be groomed.

  2. Hannah doesn't enjoy being groomed and the only way Mum can get any matts out of her fur is by snipping
    them off!

  3. This sounds like it would be great for Boodie! Right now, my human is using my Greyhound comb on her, but she needs something more specific for her longer fur - it's not as cottony as you guys, but it does mat sometimes.

  4. TT hates being combed/brushed. As she gets older, I am noticing he hair is starting to mat more. This may be the answer to helping her be mat free.

  5. That looks like a super grooming tool. Mom is happy that we don't mat because she remembers how hard it was to get mats out of her Himmies.

  8. Wow! That sounds like the perfect comb for our sister Pia, who isn't a Persian but has long, thick fur and sensitive skin! Thanks for your review and chance giveaway!

  10. All these products look great. Giulietta gets terrible mats. She's really not too bad with the furminator and other brushes, but I have many scars from when she's had enough. As to the flea comb...we really need one. We are entering the giveaway. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  17. I have several brushes and combs I use on my furbabies (three Treeing Walker Coonhounds and three cats - all rescues). One thing I'm lacking is a flea comb. We've been fortunate that we haven't had any fleas recently, but with the extremely hot and wet summers we've had lately, it's only a matter of time. I use our Furminator on our biggest dog, Seiji. The others have shorter fur, so I will use that on them, too, but also a grooming glove.

  19. Looks great! One of my cats was fluffy and long haired, and no matter how often I brushed him, he still had some knots. Needless to say he wasn't thrilled when I tried to get them out. This might have helped.

  21. We have a few different brushes, but I think this one might be helpful with Ruby's fur. She's part poodle and think there is some similarities to persian fur.

  22. I can see how such luscious, long hair could get tangles easily. One of the reasons we lean towards short hair dogs ;-)

  23. I have a DMH kitty. Hair isnt long but it isnt short either lol thanks for the great info on these products!

  25. We use the furminator and a flea comb. We don't like to be groomed. Mom's old cat loved to be brushed and combed. All she had to do was pick one of them up and he'd come a running. She misses him and wishes we were a little more like him, but we are a couple of wild and crazy boys.

    1. Mom Paula's previous cat, Sweet Praline, who was also a Persian, loved to be groomed. We tolerate it and not for long.

  26. So that is how you two always stay so gorgeous! ;) I'm glad that you found a comb that works well for that long hair of yours. It would be painful to get knots or mats in your fur! Manna and Dexter don't require a lot of grooming because of their short hair. I use a deshedding brush with them (they still shed a lot), a softer cat brush, and my hands. Their hair isn't long enough for knots, so grooming is mostly about keeping the hairballs to a minimum.

  27. This would have worked well for my Nala. She hated being groomed too and got mats in her last year.

  28. That looks like a great comb! We also have a rotating comb and have had it for years. I use it for both the cats and Dexter. You are always so lovely.

  30. Looks like a great comb! When I had my Gibson, he was a wooly Siberian Husky, and sections of his long fur could be more difficult to groom than others, and he wasn't particularly fond of being brushed in those areas. I imagine your beauties fur would need to be groomed frequently. I think this comb would work good on my wooly boy, too! Thanks for the great review!

  31. Mr. N has a similar kind of coat it sounds like. Cotton-y and prone to mats!
