Take Me Home

Five years ago, Mom Paula received this photo from Mom Terri.  At that time, Truffle hadn't picked Mom Paula yet because she was only 4 weeks old and Mom Paula wasn't able to visit yet.  Mom Paula was still struggling with depression and shed may tears from losing Sweet Praline two months earlier from cancer.  Can you imagine Mom Paula's thoughts when she received this photo?

Mom Paula:  I remember this day as clearly as if it was yesterday.  I knew I was going to get another kitten sometime that summer and was very anxious about bringing another cat into the house after living with Praline for almost 16 years.  I was still grieving her loss at that time and had traveled to Washington, DC for a conference.  I was invited by one of the first cat bloggers I met, Deb Taylor, from the Taylor Catsssss, to stay a few days in Maryland after my conference.  It was while I was at Deb's house that I received this photo.  I remember my first thoughts were that she was yelling at me through the photo to "take me home" and my heart melted.  Little did I know that three weeks later, Truffle would choose me!  We've had a special bond from that first photo.

What special memories do you have of when your fur child chose you?

  1. both brandi and I would never share the secret magical something we did to Mommy. Part of it with me was simply my picture on PetFinder. With brandi, Mommy was with friends and this little kitty kept reaching out to her.... But there are secret things only cats know how to do when we find our forever home and our new pets. Well, ok, dogs sort of have their own version. But our way is much classier!

  2. My human actually chose me before I was born! She saw an older sister of mine at a cat show and she was so sweet and poised that she wanted a cat just like her! Although I have to say, while I do have things in common with Samaraa (who I never got to meet - she lives in Russia), I'm more like her mischievous kid sister!

  3. LOVE that picture!! While mom didn't know Daiquiri was going to become a permanent resident, she took a picture of Daiq sleeping in the palm of her hand and it still makes her smile

  9. I saw Layla on Petharbor sitting in a cage in Carlson Shelter, emailed it to my friend in LA, she went to the shelter and pulled her for me, my other friend drove up to San Francisco with her, so I call it an online love affair, from pound to princess and I love her to bits

  12. My Angel Bobo passed 9 years ago today. I adopted Cody on July 28, 2007....I actually was drawn to his littermates but they didn't want anything to do with me. It was Cody who DEFINITELY picked ME. He jumped and pranced around until I noticed him....I picked him up and he never let go. I am so happy that he didn't let go. Darling photo! catchatwithcarenandcody

  16. Oh my, Truffle, you were just too cute!

When we picked out Ginger, my mom's dog, we picked her because she just seemed to have so much personality. Here are all the other puppies playing in a circle together, and Ginger was the one running off across the yard exploring everything on her own!

I think my furbabies have always found or picked me!

  18. These are the best memories, aren't they? I remember this confident, scruffily handsome, blonde dog strutting around the yard. He was completely oblivious to my husband and I. I held him in my arms the whole three hour drive home. We bonded. Thanks for this memory.

  20. I saw Mr. N at his foster home playing with everyone and bossing the big dog around and couldn't resist his spunk!

  21. I wouldn't be able to resist either. Bear was homeless when we met ... he was hiding under the deck near my front door. Neither of us was sure about the other, but neither of us ran away either. It was if we'd found our other halves in each other - but weren't sure we wanted to take the risks of loving and getting the love we both so desperately needed. And while I fed him for a couple weeks before adopting him, I think it was all determined on that first day.
