Halloween Caturday Art

This was as close as Mom Paula could get to putting that Jack-o-Lantern shirt on Truffle.  We played around with the numerous Halloween/spooky effects as we could on PicMonkey for our Halloween Caturday Art submission today.

Stay safe today and we hope you get lots of treats.

Flashback Friday with Kittens

Yesterday was National Cat Day and we shared a collage of us to celebrate the day.  We thought we'd continue celebrating cats by sharing a flashback of all the "kittens" that have been part of Mom Paula's life.  She wasn't owned by a cat until she was in her 20s, but she's been captivated by us since then.  The collage below is so neat because they are all kitten photos.  Muff's photo is a little dark and blurry because it was from the late 70s.  The kitten in the center, Beignet, never came to live with us, but he is still part of us.  So, time to get your squeeeeee on!

#NationalCatDay

National Cat Day is Thursday, October 29th. Taken from Wikipedia, "National Cat Day was founded by animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige. It is a celebration that takes place on October 29, every year in the United States. The National Cat Day website states that the holiday was first celebrated in 2005, "to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us."

We thought we'd share our collage from the 2016 Cat Calendar to celebrate National Cat Day.  Upload a pic of your #cat and tag @PetSmart with the hashtag for a chance to win 1 yr of Muse Cat Food!

The 2016 Cat Calendars are on sale now at Lulu.com.  You can click on the graphic on our sidebar to order your very own calendar and enjoy photos of beautiful blogging cats every day.

Waiting for the Great Pumpkin Kitty - A Review and Giveaway

by Paula Gregg

Many of your humans probably grew up watching Charlie Brown with Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin.  It was always one of Mom Paula's favorite movies.  Did you know there is a Great Pumpkin Kitty?  At least that's what Brulee tells Truffle and she's convinced Truffle to sit in the pumpkin patch for "her" arrival.  Brulee thinks the Great Pumpkin Kitty is a female.
Truffle and Brulee waiting for the Great Pumpkin Kitty

Ever since Brulee was a wee little kitten (7 weeks old), she's been fascinated with pumpkins.  She thought they complimented her silver and white floof so well.  She'd heard something about the Great Pumpkin and figured there had to be a Great Pumpkin Kitty to bring wonderful things to all of the kitties out there.  Brulee figured it had to be true because right after Halloween Brulee came to live with Mom Paula and Truffle in a wonderful forever home.
Baby Brulee started watching for the Great Pumpkin Kitty at a very early age.

The Great Pumpkin kitty finally arrived at our house directly from Weruva and she brought us some Pumpkin Patch Up! pumpkin supplement.  We'd always heard that if kitties and woofies were having "digestive issues" that pumpkin was a great thing to give them.  Did you also know that pumpkin is good for us and it tastes great?
Brulee wants to know when Mom Paula is going to stop with the photo session and open this up.
Brulee is checking out the Pumpkin Patch Up! and the BFF Tuna & Pumpkin Valentine Recipe.

Pumpkin is a major source of fiber.  We kitties, especially us Persians, tend to ingest a lot of floof which can cause hairballs. Adding some fiber to our diet keeps us from being constipated.  Did you know that pumpkin can also help if we have diarrhea?  Pumpkin is low in fat and cholesterol and is loaded with beta carotene, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc and vitamins A and C.  Pumpkin can also add moisture to our diets, especially if we eat dry food.  We eat a lot of canned food, but we also eat dry kibble, so this extra moisture is important to us.  Mom Paula says when Sweet Praline would get sick (either constipation from hairballs or diarrhea), the vet would recommend trying to give her some "human" pumpkin to help.  Sweet Praline would never eat it!  We believe if the Pumpkin Patch Up! had been available, she would have eaten it!
Brulee enjoys her Pumpkin Patch Up! mixed in with her favorite Weruva canned food.

Weruva has made it much easier for our humans to supplement our diet with pumpkin.  The Pumpkin Patch Up! is pureed pumpkin in a pouch. The pureed form makes it easier to mix in with dry and wet food.  The only ingredients are pumpkin and water.  Weruva recommends that you feed the Pumpkin Patch Up! in conjunction with the regular food, replacing up to 10% of the diet.  You can refrigerate unused portions.  Our only recommendation to Weruva would be to let the pouches have a resealable top to keep the contents in the fridge so it doesn't spill out.  The Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up! can be fed to both dogs and cats!!!
Truffle thinks the Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up! and the BFF Tuna & Pumpkin Recipe are delicious!

Weruva also provides us kitties with the option of adding pumpkin to some of their canned recipes: Weruva TruLuxe Steak Frites (beef & pumpkin in gravy) and On the Cat Wok (with chicken and beef in pumpkin soup); Weruva Grandma's Chicken Soup (chicken and pumpkin) and Funky Chunky Chicken Soup (chicken & pumpkin); Cats in the Kitchen Funk in the Trunk (chicken recipe in pumpkin consomme) canned food, Pumpkin Jack Splash (tuna & pumpkin soup recipe) and Pumpkin Lickin' Chicken (chicken in pumpkin soup recipe) pouches; and B.F.F. Tuna & Pumpkin Valentine Recipe (in Gravy).
Truffle waiting for Mom Paula to open everything.

We received samples of the Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up! and some varieties of the Weruva brand of cat foods to try.  There hasn't been a can that Mom Paula has opened that we haven't eaten.  We really love this food and feel very comfortable recommended it to our kitty friends.  We are thrilled that Weruva is allowing us to host a give away for TWO of our readers.  Each winner will receive a box of the Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up! pouches and a case of the BFF Tuna & Pumpkin Valentine canned food.  Aren't you happy the Great Pumpkin Kitty helped deliver the delicious pumpkin flavors and varieties to us through Weruva?

Giveaway

Two of our lucky readers will win both a case of BFF Tuna & Pumpkin Valentine cans and a box of Weruva Pumpkin Patch Up!.  The giveaway is open to residents of the United States and will run until 11:59 PM, EST, November 1, 2015. Two winners will be randomly selected by Rafflecopter and will be notified via email.  Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize and failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the prize and a new winner will be randomly chosen and contacted.  Please check your email and be sure to add sweetpurrfections@sc.rr.com to your address book.

Sunday Selfie

We've going back to 2011 again for our Sunday Selfie.  This is an adorable photo of Baby Brulee at 7 weeks old and fits in with the Fall time of the year.  We're so thankful Mom Terri took lots of photos and videos of us when we were kittens. We think her photography and themes are amazing.

Time to Clean Desk

While Truffle likes to sit directly in front of the monitor when Mom Paula is working, Brulee usually prefers resting on top of the laser printer.  Of course, with all of this mess on the desk, there's really no room to rest.  We know - some of our kitty furriends would whap those papers and other things on the floor, but we're Southern Ladycats, so we just sit around impatiently patiently waiting for Mom Paula to clean it up.

Multitasking is Hard Work

Things can get a little hectic around here, especially when Mom Paula is working from home. However, the weekends can be much worse with college football games on TV and our furriends to keep up with on social media.  This past Saturday night when Mom Paula got home late from the football game, she was watching a game on TV, a game on the computer, and visiting everyone on Facebook.  This is Truffle's favorite place to sit.

Sunday Selfie

Mom Paula is leaving for Boulder for a meeting today, so we thought we'd give  her a little break and tie in a flash back photo of Baby Truffle at 7 weeks old for our Sunday Selfie.

Caturday Art

We don't know what's gotten into Mom Paula.  It's only October 17 and she's into all of this Halloween stuff.  First, the giveaway for the Haunted House Cat Scratcher (see Friday's post) and now playing around with all of the "spooky" effects on PicMonkey for today's Caturday Art.  There were so many effects that she used that we can't remember.  She just played around for about 30 minutes.  We hope everyone has a great Caturday!

Spook House Cat Scratcher Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago, Mom Paula saw some of our cat blogging friends talking about a cool Halloween Cat House Scratcher that they found at Target.  Mom Paula just had to check it out and when she went online, it was on sale, so she quickly ordered two!  She picked them up and has had them in her car for the last two weeks and just put it together last night.
Truffle is guarding her spook cat house scratcher so Brulee won't get in.

We'd read from our friend that you need to have some duck tape handy in order to keep it together, so we were ready.  The house was very easy to put together and Mom Paula added the tape over the tabs and it stayed together purrfectly.
Truffle had a blast playing with the jingle ball that was hanging from the doorway.

Truffle immediately got in the house and played with the orange ball.  Those of you who know us know it's very rare for anything orange to be in our house because we Gamecocks bleed garnet and black.  But, it's Halloween, so we're making an exception. Brulee was curious, but she didn't dare test Truffle while she was in the house.  Once Truffle came out, Brulee went in and had a blast.
Brulee enjoyed her time playing in the house and moved too much for us to get a good photo.

This is not a sponsored post!  We just thought we'd host a giveaway for one of our lucky readers to win their own spook house.  The giveaway will only last a few days so we can ship it out before Halloween, so submit your entries quickly.  Mom Paula will be mailing this using her own funds, so we need to stick with kitties in the United States.  If any of our International kitties want to identify someone in the U.S.A. to receive the house if they win, that is fine.

Just fill out the three entry categories on the Rafflecopter widget below.  We're not making you go all over social media this time, just give us your email, your blog address, and leave a comment!  Easy!

Truffle Gets Inked

Everyone knows how much Truffle likes to sit and sleep in front of the computer monitor when Mom Paula is working.
This is Truffle with her beautiful silver/white coat
Truffle taking it easy and taking a bath while Mom Paula works!

Well....

Last night, Mom Paula must have left the cap off of a pen because when she began combing Truffle's floof, she discovered that Truffle was "inked."  This is on Truffle's chest near her underarm area. Mom Paula tried to wash it, but it looks like the floof is going to have to grow out.  In the meantime, Truffle is discovering how it feels to be a blue Persian.  MOL!

Excuse the blurry photo, but it's the best Mom Paula could do with Truffle in her arms.  Truffle pouted the rest of the night once she received a "chest bath."

Catching Up on Beauty Sleep

No, it's not Easy Sunday!  Mom Paula just had to share this photo of Truffle sleeping in front of the computer monitor.  Don't you just want to reach out and kiss that floofy head?

Washing Face

Brulee hates to get her face and eyes washed!  She twists and turns like a little floofy worm, but Mom Paula usually wins out in the end (even if it's after several attempts).  Brulee is pouting in the photo below.  Don't worry, her floof does turn back its beautiful silver and white color after she dries.

Sunday Selfie - Flashback

It's been a rough week in SC with all the floods.  Brulee decided she'd go back to a photo from when she was 8 weeks old to share for her Sunday Selfie today to help bring some smiles to your faces. Have a great day.

Next Best Thing to a Box

Brulee says an empty clothes basket is the next best thing to an empty box!

And what's even better is keeping her sister, Truffle, from getting in it with her.

Mom Paula says to say she's sorry for the grainy photos.  She quickly snapped these photos with her iPhone and it's not taking very good photos lately.  Guess it's time for a new phone...

Blocking the View

This is what Mom Paula has to put up with when she tries to work at home...
Truffle's favorite spot to sit when Mom Paula is working.

Truffle began sitting in front on Mom Paula's computer monitor the first week she came to live here back in September 2011.  Just look how little she was then and she's pretty much in the same spot, just a little smaller.

Getting Into Mischief

Even though we are indoor only kitties, all of this rain is making us "stir-crazy" and Truffle is up to her mischievous self.  Mom Paula had a major report due last Friday and finally completed the 2016 Cat Calendar yesterday, so there was all kind of "junk" where Truffle usually supervises.
What do you mean I can't get into this?  It's in my way!

There are still problems surrounding us with flooding because many of the damns from the local lakes and ponds are giving away.  Much of Columbia doesn't have water and those who do are told to boil it before using it.  Mom Paula's office is closed again today due to the danger of the roads and the lack of water.  We like having her home with us, but she also needs to make the green papers to keep us in the life style we're accustomed to living.
Graphic compliments of Ann from Zoolatry

Update on Brulee:

We did not go to the vet yesterday because of the dangerous roads.  To our surprise, our vet, Dr. Keisler, called Mom Paula yesterday to check on Brulee.  She was reviewing the x-rays and bloodwork and said there was really nothing to worry about and there was no need to bring us in unless things got worse.  Dr. Keisler is going to order some l-lysine for us to take to see if we can get rid of this virus.  Thank you for all of your purrs, prayers, and good thoughts.

2016 Cat Calendar

Mom Paula completed the cat calendar yesterday and has submitted it to the publisher.  She's ordered a proof copy and it should be here in about 7-10 days.  Once everything is finalized, we'll share the link to order your full-color weekly planner.  Here's a sneak peek at the cover, which was designed by our friend, Ann, from Zoolatry and a couple of the collages in the calendar.  Mom Paula added the gold frame around the cover so it wouldn't blend in with the background.  We're really excited to share this with everyone in a couple of weeks.

The Big Flood

First of all, we want everyone to know that we are okay.  Our house is on a little higher ground, so we didn't have any flooding or damage.  However, the flood in the Columbia and Lexington area in South Carolina was of historic proportions.  You can read more about the record-breaking floods here.
Isn't this an abnormal amount of rain?

We only had a few puddles around our yard, but the ground is really wet.  So far, we've only had spurts where the electricity went out, but we're so thankful we're okay.
Front Yard

Back Yard

Here are a couple of photos of roads within five miles from us.  Mom Paula's office is closed tomorrow because of flooding, roads being closed, and concern for rising rivers under major bridges leading into downtown Columbia.  The weather service is calling for more rain today.
These photos came from people in the Columbia and Lexington area posting on Facebook.

Pee ess - If the vet's office is open today and the roads are passable, Mom Paula is going to take us both in for a check up with this virus.

Sunday Selfie

It's been an exhausting week this past week, especially the last few days.  Brulee is slowly feeling better and things are beginning to calm down at the house.  Truffle is still a little apprehensive about the "new" smells of Brulee, but she is okay if she can rest in front of Mom Paula at the computer.  So, for our participation in The Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfie, Truffle is combining Easy Sunday with a Sunday Selfie.

Caturday Art

For today's Caturday Art graphic, we showed Brulee getting her steam neubulizer treatment.  Mom Paula turns on the shower to totally hot water and sits with Brulee for about 10 minutes to help clear up her URI.  We added the little hearts from PicMonkey to show the love Mom Paula is giving to Brulee to help her get better.
Brulee:  Just as long as you don't put me IN the shower.

Thank you for all of your purrs, prayers, and good thoughts.  Brulee is beginning to feel a little better.  Truffle is still in hiding because she doesn't like Brulee's "vet" smells yet.

Purrs for Brulee

Mom Paula got home last night and noticed Brulee was sneezing and was having some difficulty breathing.  Brulee wouldn't eat a treat, vomited, and then hid where Mom Paula almost had a heart attack trying to find her.  Mom Paula knew this wasn't normal, so she immediately scooped up Brulee, put her in the PTU, and off to the emergency vet they went at 10:00 PM.
Poor little sick Brulee waiting in her SleepyPod in the examining room.

Brulee was running a fever, sneezing, and breathing a little fast.  The vet came in about 1 1/2 hours later and examined Brulee.  The vet believes Brulee has an upper respiratory infection and when Mom Paula told her that Truffle had the eye infection in July, the vet thinks they are passing the Herpes virus back and forth, but have different symptoms.  The vet was concerned about Brulee's rapid breathing and recommended tests.  Even though they were expensive, Mom Paula agreed, since Brulee had the same thing about 6 months ago.
Brulee waiting on the examination table for the vet.

The x-rays and bloodwork and everything was pretty normal (a few levels were high or low, but she thought it may be stress).  Brulee was given medication for the nausea, some sub-Q fluids, and sent home three days of medication with instructions to sit in a steamy bathroom and use the humidifier again.  She recommended Brulee go to our regular vet Monday for followup.  Mom Paula will probably take both of us to make sure we're okay.  The vet recommended Mom Paula talk to our regular vet about giving us lysine to get rid of this virus.  Brulee and Mom Paula got home around 3:30 AM.

We'd appreciate your purrs, prayers, and good thoughts.

Pee ess - Mom Paula is having a nerve test on her left hand today.
