Thankful Thursday

It's been a couple of rough weeks with Brulee having to be rushed to the vet and Grandpa Paul being rushed to the emergency room at the human vet.  We're very thankful that both appear to be okay.  Brulee is doing great and Grandpa Paul is doing better, considering the scare he gave us yesterday.  He'll be in the hospital a few more days.

This isn't a sponsored post, but we are extremely thankful for Trupanion Pet Insurance.  Mom Paula purchased a policy for Angel Sweet Praline several years ago and she was very impressed with how well they handled expenses with her.  Trupanion was the only company who would insure Angel Sweet Praline with her being a senior kitty.  When we came to live with Mom Paula as kittens, Mom Paula immediately enrolled both of us with Trupanion.  Mom Paula likes it because she can set her own deductible and reimbursement rate.  The insurance policy doesn't cover wellness visits or the doctor's fee, but Mom Paula set it up where she pays no deductible and has 90% coverage.  She pays a little more for the premium, but it's worth it for an illness or accident.

Brulee's total vet bill a couple of weeks ago was $608.69.  We just received an email that Trupanion is going to reimburse us $498.26 and the check has already been mailed.  Mom Paula thinks we'll keep our policy as long as we get great service like this.

There are many pet insurance policies out there and the buyer needs to read the fine print.  Some companies will only reimburse a "standard" rate based on their regional figures.  Whatever company you may choose to invest in for the expenses of illnesses and injuries, having a policy is a good idea.

  1. This does sound like a great company. My human is debating whether to get insurance for me, or just put money aside every month for veterinary expenses. If she had done that for Sparkle, most of the extensive medical bills she ran up would have already been paid for.

  2. This is good information! Like Summer's human, the head peep has been on the fence about insurance. Ashton is probably the only one who is insurable, since she's still fairly young, and she may be considered to have previously existing conditions due to the way she was originally found, injured. You're right that it's a lot of fine print to read!

  3. We don't have insurance. The mom has looked at it, but unfortunately, now we're older and do have some pre-existing conditions, so it may not be right for us. She should have gotten it for us sooner.

We're glad Brulee and Grandpa Paul are doing better.

  4. We're really glad both Brulee and your Grandpa are doing well. We don't have insurance either but Mom did consider it when we adopted Raz.

  6. we are glad Brulee and grandpa are doing better. mom has often thought about the insurance...but since the median age around here is so high, the premium is out there. but maybe at least get the baby signed up

  7. Wow! That sounds good. The Woman keeps thinking she *should* do that but never does. Sigh. We are happy your Grandpa is doing okay. That gave us a bit of a scare and I'm sure it bothered your Mama a great deal!

  8. Trupanion sounds like a great pet insurance. I will definitely look into it when I get a new cat (but hoping that won't be for years!). With Carmine and Milita having chronic conditions and being seniors, I just try to set some green papers aside for them at the vet for their care.

  11. so glad that all turned out well and continued prayers for your GrandPa.

Ohhhh you know how much I LOVE Trupanion insurance!!!! We had to pay the deductible for Cody but after that we got back around 90%. I have had their insurance for 2 or 3 years and this was the first time I had to use it. As you mentioned, their customer service is superb!

  13. That sounds like a great deal. I’ve heard good and bad about pet insurance companies but will keep this in mind. I’m glad the two patients are doing better.

  14. That is fantastic coverage. I've never had pet insurance because until Truffles I always adopted older animals. I really do need to look into it.
