Recuperating - UPDATE at BOTTOM of POST

Brulee went to the vet yesterday and Dr. Boyette said she was doing great.  She weighs a little over 3 pounds and was as active as ever.  In fact, Dr. Boyette had to grab her right before she tried to jump off of the examination table.  She came home from the vet and ate her breakfast and was doing really well.

When Mom Paula got home last night from her office Christmas party, Brulee didn't meet her at the door as usual.  Mom Paula found her sleeping on the back of the couch.  When Mom Paula fixed our evening meal, Brulee sniffed the food and walked away.  She was also favoring her leg where she received the shot.  Mom Paula is a little concerned, but everything she's read says that this is something that may occur after the vaccination.  I'm keeping my paws crossed she's okay this morning (we posted this last night).

This is where Brulee stayed most of the evening last night.

Mom Paula:  I know I'm a worrywart, but I won't feel better until Brulee is back to her bouncy self.  I'll update everyone today.  Even Truffle wasn't playing last night, yet she wasn't comforting Brulee either.  It's as if she knew Brulee needed some time to recuperate from her vaccination.

Update from Mom Paula:  Brulee appears to be feeling better this morning.  She was crawling all over me in the bed and her little head perked up when I mentioned something to eat.  She immediately began eating and I didn't see the "limp" in her walk this time and she was purring when I petted and held her.  I think she's going to be okay.  I must admit - I do tend to worry a little more than usual after what happened to little Beignet.  I feel like a new mom must feel!  Here is Brulee this morning, eating breakfast with Truffle.

  2. Princeton really has a hard time fur a couple of days after his shots.(first and second set) This would include lethargy and lack of appetite. We'll rev our motors extra hard fur little Brulee (and you). xoxo

  3. Purrs to you and Brulee. We think it is probably a normal reaction to a vaccine and she should be good by tomorrow. We will purr that she is extra feisty tomorrow for you.

  4. Paws crossed that Brulee feels better soon! Binga has reacted badly to being vaccinated in the past - it made her listless the same way it did Brulee. Ask your vet, but my human heard that there is a different vaccine formula that works better for kitties who don't feel well after their shots - for future reference. I'm sending purrs Brulee's way... keep us posted!

  9. We sure hope Brulee feels better this morning. I have had cats not feel well after their shots. Did she have a rabies shot?? Sometimes that makes them puny. There are different makes of shots that don't make them feel puny. I sure would tell the vet so they can keep a record of it. And you are not being a worry wort at all. It is so scary when they act puny. Sending purrs to you Brulee.

  10. We hope Brulee will be back to her usual self today - we are always a bit "off" for a day after our annual boosters so we think she should be extra naughty very soon to teach you a lesson for letting her get "stabbed".

  14. I certainly can't blame you for worrying about Brulee after her vaccination, especially considering what happened to Beignet! Those shots are pretty toxic, really.

It's the same with babies when they get vaccinated -- they might even get a little fever or something.

Glad to hear that Brulee's much improved this morning. I'm sure Truffle missed playing with her while she inhabited the back of the couch.

  22. Paula, after everything you've been through this year, I am sure that there was a big knot in the pit of your stomach over this. Glad Brulee is better today.

  24. we are glad Brulee is feeling much better. Our foster kittens are always a little slower and sleepy after shots...but you have a scary history and we don't blame you for the worry.

  25. We understand you worrying. Audrey always has a bad reaction to shots - I think some kitties are just that way.

  30. We are so glad to hear that Brulee is now back to her usual rambunctious self. Those shots and how they affect our kitties can be pretty scary for us humans. And with your history, we know it can be more anxiety-producing.
